Which Artist Have I Chosen?

JACKSON POLLOCK

Out of all the abstract expressionists, I decided on…

I HAVE LEARNED MANY THINGS ABOUT JACKSON POLLOCK.After researching, I now know…..

•What kind of expressionism his work is•Some of the characteristics of his work•What makes his work so unique•How emotion influenced his work•Examples of his work

Jackson Pollock was an Action Painter

Action painting is a style of painting in which paint is spontaneously dribbled, splashed or smeared onto the canvas.

dribbled splashed or splattered

smeared

Some Characteristics of Pollock’s Work

• He worked on the floor.• He painted on huge, raw pieces of canvas.• He painted from all four sides• He used artist materials and industrial

materials to paint with.• Most of his work did not have images.• His technique included throwing paint on

canvas with a stick.• He also used dripping, drawing, staining, and

brushing.

What makes his work so unique?

At the time, no one had produced work this big or painted the way that he painted. Since then, Jackson Pollock’s technique has never been mastered.

How emotion influenced his work:

Jackson Pollock was under so much stress in his life that he used this emotion to create work. His paintings were pictures of how he felt as he painted. A lot of his paintings even had trash in them from his studio such as glass, keys, etc. The media didn’t even know at the time if his work could even be considered art.

Most Interesting Thing I Learned

I thought it was cool that he didn’t always use brushes to paint with, but used sticks and other stuff.
