The Year of MercyIn this Year of Mercy help your child to understand that merciful people do not hold grudges or try to ‘even the score’. When conflicts occur, give your child the opportunity to lift up whatever happened to God and then forgive the person. Turning the other cheek is never an easy thing to do, but ending a bitter fight and asking forgiveness is practicing mercy.
FIRST PENANCEOur Level Two children will celebrate the sacrament of First Penance on Saturday, February 6. Please pray for the children as they move forward in preparation to receive Jesus for the first time in April.

thStations of the Cross
Next Wednesday Feb. 10 marks the start of Lent. Stations of the Cross will be prayed each Friday beginning Feb. 12 through Good Friday, March 25 beginning at 700pm in Church. Children are reminded to bring their purple card with them – be sure to write in the Mass card number.
In Luke’s account Jesus was welcomed into the temple by two elderly people, Simeon and the widow Anna. They embody Israel in their patient expectation; they acknowledge the infant Jesus as the long awaited Messiah. Simeon, filled with joy, burst into song - …my own eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared in the sight of every people; a light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people, Israel. The Canticle of Simeon is part of the Divine Office evening prayer.

A READING FROM THE FIRSTLETTER OF ST. PAUL TO THECORINTHIANSBrothers and sisters:Love is patient, love is kind.It is not jealous, it is not pompous,it is not inflated, it is not rude,it does not seek its own interests,it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over
injury,it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices
with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to
nothing;if tongues, they will cease;if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophesy partially, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass
away.
Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
A READING FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ST. LUKEJesus began speaking in the synagogue, saying:“Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your
hearing.”And all spoke highly of himand were amazed at the gracious words that came
from his mouth. They also asked, “Isn’t this the son of Joseph?”He said to them, “Surely you will quote me this
proverb,‘Physician, cure yourself,’ and say,‘Do here in your native place the things that we
heard were done in Capernaum.’”And he said, “Amen, I say to you,no prophet is accepted in his own native place.Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Is-
rael in the days of Elijahwhen the sky was closed for three and a half yearsand a severe famine spread over the entire land.It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only
to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon.Again, there were many lepers in Israelduring the time of Elisha the prophet;yet not one of them was cleansed, but only
Naaman the Syrian.”When the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury. They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hillon which their town had been built,to hurl him down headlong. But Jesus passed through the midst of them and
went away. The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
A READING FROM THE BOOKOF THE PROPHET JEREMIAH The word of the LORD came to me, saying:Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you,a prophet to the nations I appointed you.But do you gird your loins;stand up and tell them all that I command you.Be not crushed on their account,as though I would leave you crushed before
them; for it is I this daywho have made you a fortified city,a pillar of iron, a wall of brass, against the whole land:against Judah’s kings and princes, against its priests and people. They will fight against you but not prevail over
you,for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.
The word of the Lord . . . Thanks be to God.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM I will sing of your salvation.
When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child;when I became a man, I put aside childish things. At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face.At present I know partially;then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. So faith, hope, love remain, these three;but the greatest of these is love.
The word of the Lord . . . Thanks be to God.
EARLY MORNING MASS CHANGE
The vote taken last weekend by the 7 and 8am Masses went well and the result for their
preference for a shared Mass went this way:
103 Votes for a 730am with no music 32 Votes for a 745am with music
The people have spoken and as of
FEBRUARY 2016
There will be a 730am Mass. No Mass intentions are affected by this move they’ll remain the same.

Conducted by Jennifer Edwards
Prayer
It's one of those things you know is important,
but...come on. Between work, family, home, and
community responsibilities, how can you fit prayer
into the grind of daily life? After all, God knows
you love him, right? Well, maybe your prayer life
isn't about placating God, but about finding a
deeper sense of joy and fulfillment, not only in your
spiritual life--but in every aspect of your life! Join
us for a mini-retreat just in time for Lent, "Kick
Start Your Spiritual Life," (with details...etc.)
during which you will learn why prayer matters in
2016, as well as simple, practical tips for prayer
that will blow open your spiritual life.
Our Retreat presenter for adults next week will be Jennifer Edwards (pictured with two of her boys) She holds a Master’s Degree in Biblical Theology from Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology at Seton Hall University. She has developed a number of programs and materials for the New Evangelization, including Bible Studies, retreats, and Adult Faith Formation curriculums, and is an advocate for Respect Life movement and the New Feminism. She is currently a freelance writer, and pastoral consultant for Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Atlanta. She resides in Sullivan County with her husband of 15 years and 4 children. She has spoken at our Home Study CCD Conferences last year.
