SOARING THROUGH

UNFAMILIAR SKIES

Yuri Gagarin was a Soviet cosmonaut who was the first person to make a single orbit around the Earth.

In 1958, President Eisenhower created

NASA.

And Kennedy gave us the push for us to go to the Moon by the end of the 1960’s.

In 1957 the Soviet Union launched

Sputnik 1, the World’s first artificial satellite.

In 1969, the Apollo 11 crew: Mike Collins, Neil Armstrong, and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon.

“That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind” said Neil Armstrong

The United States signed the SALT Agreement with the Soviet Union to decrease tensions

between the two nations.
