The purpose of this booklet is
to provide you with security
advices and guidance in order
to reduce your exposure to
the threats that exist while
traveling oversea.

PASSPORT
THAILAND
BEFORE YOUR INTERNATIONALBUSINESS TRIP
Essential documents to carry:
PREPARATION
Validated passport
(with granted visa,
if required)
Ticket
Travel insurance
Credit cards
Blood group card/vaccination record card
Ready currency (split between pockets)
and/or travelers cheques
Destination contact numbers

This booklet
3Take a photocopy of the key pages of your
passport and visa. Record the serial numbers
of traveler cheques and credit cards. Keep
these papers in a separate envelop. Carry
additional passport photographs.
Ensure that you have your medical pack
and/or medicine, this may be required when
passing through customs/immigration. Do not
pack hypodermic syringes in wash bags or
separate containers; keep them in the official
medical pack.
CARD & CASH
Carry US Dollars; they are useful currency
to carry.
Obtain some local currency at the airport.
Have a separate credit card when traveling.
4SECURITY
It should be recognized that the number of
incidents experienced by international travelers
is very low. Although complete security can never
be guaranteed, adherence to the guidance
suggested in this booklet can minimize risks.
Careful planning can enable you to avoid
potential risk, for example, avoid intermediate
stops in areas of tension and schedule arrival
at airports at reasonable hours.
Try to avoid arriving on sensitive or
contentious anniversaries when internal
security restrictions may be in force, causing
delays and other problems. Confirmation of
return bookings should be made immediately
upon arrival at your destination. Understand the
reception procedure, who is collecting you
and what to do if youre not met.
5BAGGAGE
Take enough clothing and accessories to
cover your needs.
Obtain local advice prior to departure.
Ensure your bag is strong and secure: mark
it with a distinctive marker.
Keep luggage to a minimum, you should be
able to carry what you take.
Carry a change of underwear, shirt, sweater
and wash kit in your hand baggage.
DEPARTURE
Confirm your return flight with the airline
at least two days before you fly.
Check in 3 hours before the flight.
Use the early check in facility where
available.

SECURITY
If you are involved in an incident or
experience any kind of security problem,
contact your Security function or your Country
Representative.
Make sure you carry a copy of the
destination telephone numbers with you at all
times.

7ADVICE WHILST TRAVELING
GENERAL
Travel in low profile. Dress
in casual clothing, anony-
mously and without showing
personal status. Suitcases
should be locked and labeled
with name, flight number and
destination. Airlines executive status travel
tags should not be displayed.
Sticky tape can be put across locks and
adjoining edges to deter and indicate
tampering.
Items that may be offensive to nationals
of the country you are visiting should not be
carried.
Do not wear personal jewellery, expensive
watches or earrings which may attract the
attention of criminals. Cameras should be
concealed. Do not carry or pack weapons.

8 Do not carry expensive or ostentatious
briefcases. Coded Tumbler locks are best.
Have a supply of negotiable currency handy
for immediate use. (e.g. US dollars, local
currency). Check admissible duty free
allowance upon entry the country of
destination.
Know and confirm the destination, airport
reception Meet and Greet arrangements,
the hotel name or staff house address and
local emergency contact numbers should
problems arise.
IN THE AIRPLANE
Be discreet in conversations on Company
matters.
Safeguard Company classified papers.
Do not leave jackets with valuables
unattended.

unless specifically requested by officials.
Currency declaration cards should be
completed accurately.
Safeguard the currency declaration form
with your passport.
Before you leave the aeroplane, check you
have all of your personal luggage and the
necessary entry documents and papers.

HIJACK THREATS
Hijack incidents are
rare but unpleasant. In
the unlikely event that
you become a victim, you
will be offered support and
counseling for you and your family, including
a full debriefing following resolution.
Keep calm and control your personal
feelings.
Merge with other passengers in actions
and responses by not appearing to be
different or an important person.
Do not attempt to negotiate or be a spokes-
person.
Never make sudden physical movements
with hands, head or body.
Do not communicate verbally or make
signals to other passengers.

Respond to instructions calmly, positively
and promptly without dissension.
Avoid eye contact
Do not try to obscure your identity or
nationality if challenged.
Answer questions calmly and politely-do not
get heated.
Mentally prepare possible question and
answer sequences.
Study printed safety instructions and note
emergency exit routes.
Be prepared to act quickly. In the event of
shooting or explosions protect yourself
with cushions, blankets and briefcases.
Drop flat on the floor.
Do exactly as instructed by any Security
Force personnel.

ON ARRIVAL
Always be patient and co-operative with
immigration officers and officials.
Check that the entry permit covers the
planned duration of your visit.
Offer only one piece of luggage at a time
for customs checking. In case of a dispute,
hand over the item. Request a written
receipt and record the identity of the
Customs official. Report the incident
immediately to the Country Manager.
Reception arrangements will vary in
different countries. Travelers can be met at
the immigration desk, at customs or in
the cleared area.
Be sure of the identification of your
reception host and identity procedures
agreed with your host before departure.

Remain at the airport if you are unsure If
the reception system has failed you may
decide to take an authorized taxi:
- Note the registered number of the vehicle.
- Agree on the fare before departure.
- Lock doors and keep windows up should.
The threat level warrant.
- In the event of lack of currency or in case
of dispute with the taxi driver, request
the hotel to settle the fare up on arrival.
Do not haggle with the driver en route.

THE HOTEL
After check-in
at reception, place
your passport, tickets,
travelers cheques,
currency and valuables
in a safe deposit box and
keep the key with yourself.
Safest and quietest rooms are usually at
the rear or sides of hotels. Avoid the ground
floor and floors above the 5th, which cannot
be reached by fire ladders.
Check out the location of the nearest
stairway and fire exit.
Power cuts can occur and sometimes the
hours of the cuts are the same everyday. Be
sure to avoid the use of elevators close to
these times. Pack a travel torch to account
for such eventualities.
Reward the porter taking your luggage to
your room. The gesture will be appreciated.

Do not leave classified Company papers and
briefcases in your room.
Ensure internal locks are applied and that
intercommunicating doors are bolted.
Check that the door viewer, if fitted,
workscorrectly.
Leave a light and the TV/radio on when
leaving the room and, if timely, hang the

door knob.
Always answer the telephone anonymously.
Ask who is speaking before indentifying
yourself.

STREET SENSE
Do not walk outside or around the hotel
without local knowledge.
Carry a small amount of US dollars or local
money ($50 equivalent) to give away if
threatened.
Never carry credit or ATM cards in your
wallet. Only carry if absolutely necessary and
always keep them hidden and separate from
your money. Be aware of credit card fraud.
Never resist thieves or muggers. Stay calm,
co-operate, and hand over the ready money
and any other items demanded.

Dress casually and do not stare at or
visually challenge passers by. Walk briskly,
keep alert and avoid dimly lit areas.
Keep your wallet in an inside or trouser
Ladies should carry small handbags with
secure fasteners, carried on shoulder, turned
inwards and tucked under the arm.
If you have papers or valuable items to carry,
avoid carrier bags which identify you as
a foreigner.
Avoid buses and minibuses unless
recommended as safe.
Only take licensed taxis recommended by
the hotel.
Do not drive a hire or company car unless
you are confident of the local geography
and are comprehensively insured.

Do not exchange currency in the street
Avoid bars and nightclubs until familiar
with the area, and never visit them on
your own.
If you have any allergies or a medical
condition, it is advisable to carry indication
of such a condition.
Do not photograph sensitive Government
establishments, for example Police and
Military Headquarters, airport and radio
station.
Do not linger outside politically sensitive
establishments, embassies or airline offices
unless approaching on official business.

Do not identify yourself as a foreigner by
reading a map on the street.
Do attempt to have a few words of the
local language and be aware of local
culture, national customs, courtesies and
mannerisms so as not to cause offence.

Check your hotel room
carefully before checking
out, and ensure that all
your travel documents are
in order.
Allow ample time to travel
to the airport and for
check-in procedures.

Ensue that you have the correct money if
exit taxes are to be paid at the airport
and that your currency declaration form, if
required, is accurately completed and ready.
Do not carry any prohibited or controversial
items, e.g. icons, forbidden animal trophies,
plants/seeds or antiques.
Do not at any time carry anything for
anyone else. If you are required to do so,
make sure to pack the things by yourself
and know exactly what you are carrying.
After clearing the airline desk, customs
and immigration, make sure your passport
boarding card and currency are secure.
If an executive lounge is available, check in
and store you luggage.

AFTER YOUR RETURN
Consider the effects of fatigue after a long
journey and avoid immediate long journey
driving accordingly.Taxi services for return
from the airport to home can be quicker than
driving your own car and reduce the risk of
accidents.

need help in resolving
outstanding issues.
