LIQUID APPLIED ROOF COATINGSLiquid applied roof coatings have made huge strides in recent years in providing solutions to the practical problems within the roofing and waterproofing membrane industry. Liquid applied roof coatings can be primers, basecoats or topcoats over many substrates, including BuR, single-ply, modified bitumen, metal, spray polyurethane foam, asphalt, tile, wood, cement, slate or clay. they extend service life by modulating temperature fluctuations, which reduces thermal expansion and contraction, and they protect the underlying material from water, uV radiation, chemicals and wear. this allows the building owner to minimize or postpone costly tear-off and reroofing, as well as lessening the negative environmental impact of landfilling material. in addition, liquid applied roof coatings can promote fire resistance, energy savings, color longevity and environmental benefits, such as improved energy star and Leed ratings. this versatility of performance allows for smart, economical roofing solutions across all geographic regions.

Premium Performance
As a global specialty chemicals company, Lubrizol provides resins and additives that enhance the durability and appearance of liquid applied roof coatings. Resins offer dependable protection against weather, dirt pick-up and ponding water damage, while additives disperse pigments that promote reflectivity, which can result in lower energy costs for building owners. Lubrizol’s portfolio includes products that address key industry needs for moisture and ponding water resistance, alkali resistance, weathering and crack bridge performance, Uv and thermal aging resistance, long-lasting color, rub resistance, corrosion resistance and long-term elasticity.
Technical exPerTise
Lubrizol’s technical team has years of roofing formulation experience, offering customers leading technical service, a broad spectrum of testing capabilities, and new testing methodology to drive quality and performance beyond current specifications. Lubrizol is committed to understanding customer needs, collaborating to design and deliver high-performance solutions that meet the roofing industry’s challenges.
markeT insighT
Lubrizol is dedicated to helping stakeholders respond to changing market demands. We share industry insights learned through analysis of global research studies, participation in committees such as AstM and the Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA), and participation in industry events and conferences to help customers stay well informed of the changing needs of the roofing market.

For primers use Carboset® RPt 2000 or Carboset® CA 1009.(Primers based on Carboset® RPt 2000 help provide adhesion while also providing excellent bleed through resistance.).
For basecoats and topcoats use Carboset® RPt 2000, Carboset® RPt 3030, Carboset® Ae 960, Carboset® CA 1008 and Carboset® CA 1009, depending on geographical and regulatory requirements.
BuilT-uP and modified BiTumen asPhalTic roofing
Asphaltic-based roofs are field constructed by laminating asphaltic plies together with a bitumen adhesive mastic. the plies and mastic fuse together to create a resistant waterproof monolith which is then surfaced with aggregate or a reflective coating. these systems can be constructed in all geographic regions and designed to satisfy all building codes and regulatory requirements. For areas where cool roofing is desired, primers and coatings designed using Lubrizol’s Carboset® polymers allow for tough, durable reflective surfacing, for both new construction and restoration.
For primers use Carboset® RP 7350.
For basecoats and topcoats use Carbose® RPt 2000, Carboset® RPt 3030, Carboset® Ae 960, Carboset® CA 1008 and Carboset® CA 1009.
meTal roofing
Metal roofing has become more popular over the last twenty years due to its ease of installation, array of color options and overall strength. the standing seam panels are snapped together and then treated with a sealant to prevent water infiltration. Over time, the field of the roof can corrode as the coating breaks down or abrades, and the seam sealant can weather to the extent that it can no longer withstand the roof’s movement. When this happens, the roof can become compromised and water can penetrate the structure. Primers and topcoats based on Lubrizol’s polymers provide a cost effective way to restore roofs to their original color and restore their waterproofing properties.

concreTe roofing
Concrete roofs offer a functional alternative to traditional roofing.
the cast-in-place system insulates, requires low maintenance, allows
roof slope to be built into the design, and has the ability to
create livable space. Primers and topcoats made from Lubrizol
polymers protect the concrete from degradation and offer
ease of maintenance.
single-Ply roofing
single-plies are rubberized or plasticized membranes that are
mechanically fastened or adhered to a roof substrate. the seams of
these membranes are either heat welded or sealed using a solvent
based adhesive. Although cost effective with wide geographic appeal, they are susceptible to puncture damage, dirt pick-up
and water infiltration, particularly at failing seams. in these cases, restoring the roofs with primers
and topcoats based on Lubrizol’s polymers provides a cost effective
way to extend roof life without having to invest in a
costly tear off.
For primers use Carboset® RPt 2000 or Carboset® RPt 3030 depending on substrate type.
For basecoats and topcoats use Carboset® RPt 2000, Carboset® RPt 3030, Carboset® Ae 960, Carboset® CA 1008 and Carboset® CA 1009.
