Narration of Practicum Experiences

a) Practicum Orientation

Globalization of business, developments in information technology and electronic communication, altered organization structures and views of responsibility and accountability are some of the changes that require special attention by the professional of the future.

To be successful in the new business environment and society at large, Sales must display an understanding of the myriad of forces impacting the day-to-day activities of business, government and not-for-profit organizations, and be capable of integrating information that supports a holistic view of organization decisions.

The accountant of the future must also be a highly skilled individual. The curriculum of the program has been designed to develop and enhance the skills and abilities seen as essential to the practice of professional Sales.

Specifically, the development of intellectual, communication, interpersonal, organizational and professional skills is a critical component of the success of this program.

9

b) Program Objectives

The overall program objective is to facilitate the process of transforming a candidate with sales and other related business knowledge into an sales Markting professional. Thus, the curriculum for this Master's program equips candidates to practice in an interdisciplinary and global context. The program aims to transform candidates into Sales professionals through . . .

an interdisciplinary & global focus. organizational study. advanced knowledge development. skill enhancement. research experience. professional practice exposure.

In addition the program;

extends the candidate's knowledge in areas of organizational study such as the business environment, strategic management, information systems, and entrepreneurship

Develops advanced knowledge in traditional areas of practice, such as assurance, financial reporting, and taxation.

Develops to a professional level the basic skills acquired in an undergraduate program.

Provides candidates with exposure to aspects of professional practice through various forms of interaction with the professional accounting and business community, including allowing for a period of "on site" employment.

10

Equips candidates with research skills appropriate to the task of defining, investigating, sourcing relevant data and information, analyzing and preparing recommendations on the resolution of marketing related business problem.

c) On-the-Job-Training

On-the-Job-Training or OJT is job training that occurs in the work place. It has many advantages, but it can also have a few disadvantages if the OJT is not planned and executed properly. It is part of a college curriculum that aims to train and orient students about the work and their future career. It is very important not only to teach students their chosen career but to show students the reality about working.

Most students nowadays are not serious in their training. They don't plan ahead and pick the best company that they can choose. Worst, they ended up cleaning the desk of their superior or doing unrelated tasks. Here is why students should not take OJT for granted:

1. If you will get a high evaluation grade, your employer might hire you when you graduate.

2. Your background OJT is very important when applying for a job. Oftentimes, employers will ask you the relevance of your training to your course and to the position you are applying for.

3. Some companies will give you a monthly allowance if you are doing well in your tasks.

4. OJT will be your training ground. If you still have no idea on what is meant to be a worker, OJT will give a hint of career realities.

5. Your OJT superior my recommend your skills to other companies whom he knows.

6. It will give you a sense of confidence that you can use when applying for a job after graduation

7. Help individuals make informed career choices.

11

d) Practicum Experiences

As the main department I completed my training course with was the account Department. I

performed day to day tasks, e.g. Budgets statements of anticipated future expenditure covering a

specific time period, and cash Budgets which show expected receipts & payments on a monthly

basis to help assess potential cash flow problems.

Finally, I have earned a lot of experience in all field in the company especially account, that will

help me in the present and in the future in my carrier that will develop my capabilities to the best

of extent.

e) Scope of work

Every organization wants to attract the most qualified employees and match them to

jobs for which they are best suited. However, May enterprises are too large to permit

close contact between top management and employees. Human resources, training,

and labor relations managers and specialists provide this connection. In the past, these

workers performed the administrative function of an organization, such as handling

employee benefits questions or recruiting, interviewing, a hiring new staff in

accordance with policies established by top management.

Today’s human resources workers manage these tasks, but increasingly, they also consult with

top executives regarding strategic planning. They have moved from behind the scenes staff work

to leading the company in suggesting and changing policies.

12

f) Objective of work to be accomplished

The most useful way to set work objectives is to remember to make them SMART - that is,

Specific - Measurable - Achievable - Relevant - time bound.

- Maintain a strong relationship with the clients by hearing their complains and demands

and providing them with salutations.

- Create integrated strategies to develop and expand existing customer sales.

- Management position where the company can effectively utilize my expertise in human

relations, project management, and staff recruitment and retention.

- Leadership responsibilities including problem solving, planning, organizing and

managing budgets to get the highest profit in the market.

- Looks for opportunities to improve processes that lead to reduced costs, reduced lead

times and/or increased accuracy.

g) Contribution of work to the company

Offering all kind of services to assure clients satisfaction.

Assessment of the consequence of errors upon operations, reports, service delivery.

Day-to-day activities occur as scheduled.

Work products (e.g. reports, registrations, inspections, etc.) are complete, accurate, timely

and understandable.

Keep records of all transactions maintains charges and fees.

Guarantee the protection and safety of all clients.

Chapter 3

Evaluation of Practicum Experiences

Insights Gained from all phases of On-The-Job Training

I have gained a wide scope of experience despite the short period I have worked in, and I think a

main advantage was the rotation cycle I was introduced in the beginning which enhanced my

knowledge and changed my view of work as what we gain from studying is just the basics, while

the rest is all based on experience such as:

•Working on financial statements used (Final Accounts): Balance Sheet, Cash flow Statement.

•Became more familiar and got the courage to deal with company customers.

•Learned to deal with my colleagues in the company and experienced the work environment.

•Learned to deal with my colleagues in the company and experienced the work environment, and

start share the staff ideas, they welcomed any idea even if it might be wrong, which helped me to

say my ideas without any fear, this made me more courage with people even in my social life.

•I started get used to long job duties which I never stay that long in work place.

14

Problems Encountered

I had some problems, but not considerable, because of my lack experience in the field of work,

such as:

•Using the new Programs such as: Adobe Photoshop.

•Dealing with files, statements, the transactions.

•Although the staff had fully demonstrated in training me, but in many times when they were

very busy, I deal with any situation by myself.

•Delays in paying.

. No business card in sitra policetation.

Solutions Offered

• All the staff they were very kind with me and they teach me how to use the systems,

when I have be very good in use the systems they let me to do everything by myself.

• Keeping the clients informed of any updates regarding the delays and to make them feel

that they are always in our attention.

Recommendation

I recommend creating more office spaces to prevent crowdedness, and to have more organized

queue lines, I also advice to increase the number of employees to reduce the pressure and

workload under all department. So providing us with further assistance and guidance to help us

to be more productive and efficient, and it would make our jobs much easier and satisfying.

I also would like to recommend providing more training for all employees in the company.

15

Conclusion

I have discussed briefly about the On-The-Job-training program in Sitra policetation , and have

also provided information regarding the skills I have leaned so far.

A major skill I have gained is efficiency and effectiveness which challenged me while

performing the required tasks at a high speed and at the best productive rate. I have also learned

how to work with groups and how to deal with people who improved my personal skills, which

inevitably will help me to face the challenges in my future career
