What is Smart Grid ?

“Smart grid” generally refers to a class of technologiesthat people are using to bring utility electricitydelivery systems into the 21st century, usingcomputer-based remote control and automation.These systems are made possible by two way digitalcommunications technologies and computerprocessing that has been used for decades in otherindustries. They are beginning to be used onelectricity networks, from the power plants and windfarms all the way to the consumers of electricity inhomes and businesses. They offer many benefits toutilities and consumers -- mostly seen in bigimprovements in energy efficiency and reliability onthe electricity grid and in energy users’ homes andoffices.
