DISCIPLESHIP AND WEALTH
Sometimes we get the idea that having material wealth is a bad thing. We may convince ourselves that it is the poor who are favored. In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth alone does not keep us from discipleship. We will see that there are other gifts more important than material wealth, but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters most.
Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of wisdom, trusting in God, and letting our actions reflect the love of God from within. It is not gold that causes us to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other things. From the readings in Wisdom and Hebrews, we find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. Wisdom is more valuable than worldly possessions. In Hebrews, we are challenged to look at our own values and admit honestly what controls our lives. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Confirmation is coming! What does it mean to
us as a community, a parish family, for our young people to be celebrating Confirmation?
We rejoice! We are delighted to see the faith and commitment of our youth and we welcome them with open arms to full membership in our
family.
It is a journey for these young men and women. The preparation takes two years, and that time
is spent both learning information about their faith, but also learning how to live the faith. That includes various community services, prayer opportunities, and a retreat just for them. This year Confirmation will be celebrated at Our
Divine Savior on March 19, 2016.
What can we do, as individuals, to support these young people? We can get to know them. We
can talk to them about their lives and their faith lives. Most of all, we can pray for them, not only
on Confirmation day but on all the days leading up to that.
In the Rite of Acceptance for our students we
say, "We are called by Jesus to support them as they grow in faith during this time of
preparation so that they may challenge and strengthen us in ours. Their presence among us will remind us that we are all journeying
together in a life of faith."
Your prayers are deeply appreciated. If you can
do more, please contact Jennifer Forward at 345-
6201.
