Winter 2018 Home Is Where the Heart Is!
St. Aloysius School
Newsletter
This past month as we opened our doors to
prospective families and students for next year, we
adapted the theme: Home Is Where the Heart Is.
Yes, we value heart-felt values at St. Als
especially the values of faith, family, and
friendship. We are certainly a Family of Faith.
As of the writing of this article, the enrollment of
St. Al’s School is 156 (up 2 students from Aug.
and 13 from May). There is 1 new 7th grade
student who began at St. Als in January. 1 new 5th
grade student who began in February. And 1 new
6th grade student who also began in February.
Much of Mr. Weir’s time lately has been spent
visiting with people considering our school and
giving tours to families.
Our Open House this year was held on Feb. 13th
at which over 20 new families signed up for more
information. With the announcement of the
Cathedral School closing next year we had a
second Open House just for Cathedral families on
Feb. 26 at which over 20 more families were in
attendance. So, if attendance at our Open Houses
this year is of any consolation, next year’s
enrollment looks very positive.
The tuition rate for next school year will remain
the same as this year. Special consideration is
being given to those students who are coming to
us from the Cathedral. A plan has been put into
place wherein over the course of three years those
who are joining the St. Al’s Family from
Cathedral will be transitioned into the full tuition
amount.
Over the past few years St. Als and Cathedral
Schools have enjoyed athletic and academic
cooperation. We fielded one team (the Knights.
Go Knights!), cooperated in bulk purchasing,
faculty sharing, administrative support, etc.
Before any announcement was made, our
students were friends, and we knew each other.
Now that their “house” has to close, we welcome
our sisters and brothers from Cathedral and will
make every effort to make their transition to our
“home” a smooth one.
Please consider taking part in the great things
happening at St. Als. We are growing, we are
moving, we are keeping the flame of faith lit on
the northend of Springfield.
Finely, be and be sure to check out our new and
improved web-page at www.saintaloysius.org.
You’ll be glad you did!
With pastoral affection,
Fr. Clint, O.P.

The Observance of Lent
As the season of Lent began on February 14 this year with
Ash Wednesday, the 8th graders of St. Aloysius School wanted
to observe its start in a special way. It was decided that each of
the 8th graders would station themselves around the school and
there represent one of the Stations of the Cross. In small groups, underclassmen made their way from station to station
praying along the way lead by an 8th grade guide. The event
was not only successful but quite inspiring for all who
participated.
