CHS Opens Touch - Goonellabah The Maclean High School boys and girls Opens Touch teams finally got to compete in the Northern Rivers Zone selecon and CHS Knockout compeons aſter the day was postponed at the end of last term due to rain and floods; luckily the weather was perfect. Both the boys and girls teams easily won their first two rounds of games with a brilliant show of speed and skill against Lismore/Richmond and Evans River School to gain a posion in the zone final. Unfortunately, both finals were played simultaneously so there was not a chance to support each other, but it definately did not detract from the quality of games. The boys played Alstonville High School and the start was close but the well drilled Alstonville team came out the winners. The girls challenger was Woodenbong Central School and the Maclean High School girls went out strong and scored in the first minute of the game. This boost made them more determined and the momentum built throughout the enre game. Our teamwork, defence and fitness were obvious strengths and aſter 25 minutes of non stop play the girls were victorious with a lead of 6-2. Congratulaons to all players and, specifically, Jade Moffi, Carissa Miladou, Zhanae Whalley, Tia Hollis, Yasmin Elabbasi, Zeah Fox, Tye Eamens Gardiner and Brian Quinlin-Randall for their selecons in the Northern Rivers Zone teams and to Reece Warburton for his nominaon as shadow player. ANZAC ServiceOn Friday, 23rd April, the school commemorated ANZAC Day. The service was attended by Major Stephen Walton from the Maclean RSL Sub-Branch. The school is fortunate in having three ex-defence personnel on staff that formed the cenotaph party at the flagpole. Wreaths were laid on behalf of the school community by Major Walton, Zhanae Walley, Kori Eaton and Mr Court.

An event such as this cannot be held without the support and participation of several people. Firstly, thank you to Deborah Breckenridge who addressed the school body in giving a Welcome to Country and to Mr John Ambrose for a very moving speech on the meaning of ANZAC in modern times.

Thanks also to our school captains Zali Bourke, Sean McFarlane, Paris Brailsford, Sophie Strange and Kori Eaton for setting up and running the assembly. Thank you to Patrick Moore who played the Last Post and Reveille to perfection. Thank you to Dave Innes, Sean Crowley and Angela Dehnert for forming the cenotaph party that gives the ANZAC service more relevance and meaning, as they represent those who have served and those still on active duty in the Australian Defence Force around the world.

Above all, thank you to the school body, whose exemplary behaviour and attention reflected the ANZAC spirit in showing respect and reverence for such an important occasion. Ms Lisa Hamilton.
