Why do I need my ID card in the Learning Centre?

• You MUST have

your ID card to

borrow any books,

DVDs or CDs.

• You MUST know

Your ID number

to logon to the PCs.

How many books can I borrow?

How long can I borrow a book?

•3 weeks

How many DVDs and Music CDs can I borrow?

•2 DVDS

•2 CDs

How long can I borrow films and Music CDs?

•1 week

But I have not finished reading my books. What can I do?

• You can renew your books for 3 weeks more

The book I want is out on loan to my friends. How can I get it?

• You can ask learning centre staff to reserve the book for you. When the book is returned you will be given the book to borrow.

What happens if I return my books late?

• You pay us money! Renew your books and avoid this punishment!

Does the Learning Centre sell anything useful for my course?

Pens and pencils

USB pens

CDs

Calculators

Plastic wallets

Project folders

Headphones

How long can I use the PCs?

• 1 hour at a time if you want longer ask Learning Centre staff.

Do you have a Scanner?

• Yes• You need to book it in advance with

learning centre staff to avoid waiting.

• It only works on 1 PC.

Is there any cost for printing?

• Black and white is FREE

• Colour is NOT. See learning centre staff for information.

• ONLY print what you NEED!

Where is the best place to save my work?

• Desktop, My Documents, NO Nooooo!

• Save to your H drive or USB pen

Can I use the Internet?

Yes Yes

What can I do on the Internet?

You can use the Internet to help you with your studies, to contact your family and for leisure. When the Learning Centre is busy the Internet is for work only!

What can’t I use on the Internet?

• Download games

• Download any music or films illegally

• Look at hate sites

• Look at sexist sites

•NO No No No No

What happens if I don’t log off?

• You can’t use another INTO PC anywhere in the building!

Where can I find online information to help me with my course?

• INTO Manchester website (available soon).

• Manchester College website

• Manchester University website

How can I find out if you have the books I want?

• You can use the online Library catalogue.

• You can search by:

• Author, title, subject or phrase.

How are books in the learning Centre organised?

• In Dewey order.

• What’s that?

• Each book has a subject number for example 330 Economics, 510 Maths.

How can I find English books at my level?

• All English books are colour coded

• Starters, Beginners, Elementary

• Pre-Intermediate

• Intermediate

• Upper-Intermediate and Pre-Advanced

• Advanced

How do you want us to behave in the Learning Centre

• Talk quietly

• Mobile phone on silent

• Only print out what you need

• Use the Internet sensibly

• Return your books on time

• No eating and drinking

• Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Can I use the Learning Centre before or after lessons?

• Monday 8.30- 5.00

• Tuesday 8.30- 5.00

• Wednesday 8.30- 6.45

• Thursday 8.30- 6.45

• Friday 8.30- 4.00

What is the 10 minute rule?

• 10 minutes before the end of each day ALL student computers are logged off and NO more books are issued or returned.

Can I copy some pages from a book?

• Yes we have a coin operated photocopier which costs 5p a copy and 10p for large copies.

I can’t logon, I can’t find the book I need. Who do I ask for help?
