Feast of St Anne
Catholicism Series, Collaborative Center, 7:00 PM
Friends of St Anne Sr Ann Villa has overseen a wonderful group of
parishioners who spend countless hours both inside
and outside the Church building. They will work
together to make sure those who celebrate with us
for any occasion will appreciate the beauty of our
facility and its cleanliness. They will gather this
week for a luncheon - on the feast of St Anne and St
Joachim (parents of Mary). As I am writing this I
am realizing that would make them the grandparents
of Christ. I wonder how well he knew them. Special
word of appreciation for Sr Anne and her
volunteers.
Canobie Lake Appreciation Thank you to our Director of Ministries, Stephen
May, for organizing our annual trip to Canobie Lake
(July 19th). It is the Norwood Knights of Columbus
that subsidizes the trip - to make it affordable for all.
This year we had 82 children, teenagers and adults
make the excursion. Some went on the chartered bus
and others took their own cars. We thank Steve for
the countless hours and attention he put toward
making this opportunity a reality for he families of
the Collaborative.

Operation Backpack/Dominican Republic Kids
Our administrative assistant, Ana Chavez, is once
again this year sponsoring a collection for the needy
children of the Dominican Republic, where she and
her husband Juan, who run the Heartbeats of Love
Foundation, travel each year with donations from all
over the city of Boston. Last year the collection was
for children’s shoes, and this year the collection is
for new backpacks and school supplies. The Founda-
tion is asking for new backpacks filled with note-
books, pencils, erasers, crayons, pencil sharpeners
and rulers, so that the kids are ready to go when the
school year starts. The goal is to collect 3,000 back-
packs. Backpacks and/or supplies for the backpacks
may be dropped off at the Collaborative Center from
9:00 - 3:00 weekdays until August 25th. Thank you
in advance.

Friends,
I read a couple of wonderful books lately; We Were Liars, a novel by E. Lockhart and Building a
Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect,
Compassion and Sensitivity, by James Martin, a Jesuit priest. I highly recommend both. It is true that we make
the time for those things in our life which we choose as priorities. I was thinking about why I enjoy reading so
much. I am an extrovert and a people person, so reading forces me to be alone and comfortable by myself and
with myself. It also brings a sense of calm into my life. Books can also become friends. If you have a good one,
you want to spend a lot of time together and you don’t want “the story” to end. I learn a lot about my priorities
by the types of books I read. It is a major source of education and information for me and I never want to be
complacent in either area. I also owe it to you to keep up to date and to challenge you as well as myself to
become all we are capable of being. What a thrill it is to recommend a book to someone knowing they are going
to love it and that it could be life altering. Many times after reading a good book or seeing a great movie I
realize this may not be my story or my life experience, but it is someone’s. If I didn’t make myself aware of it, I
might not know otherwise.
The following are some quotes from other books I have read.
“Jesus didn’t set out to create an institutional Church that happens to have a mission; he created a mission that
happens to have a Church.”
“We Catholics have a great grasp of our tradition but little sense of our history.”
“ A healthy attitude is contagious but don’t wait to catch it from others. Be a carrier.”
“Sometimes you have to be silent to be heard.”
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”
Plato
“The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.”
“God is not a thought. God is a way of thinking.” Joan Chittister
“To love someone is not just a strong feeling - it is a decision, it is a judgment, it is a promise.” Erich Fromm
“When bad things happen to a friend, you feel bad for your friend. When something bad happens to one you
love though, something bad also happens to you.”
“Love is not a moment in time, it is the passage of time.”
People sometimes ask how I find time to read and my simple response is: “I don’t watch TV and I don’t own a
computer or a cell phone. Enough Said.
Enjoy Life!

Edward Twins are back in town! Due to an overwhelming request to bring Anthony and Eddie Edwards back to Readville, we have signed a contract that will have them with us on Saturday evening, September 30th at the Collaborative Center. They are impersonators and celebrity illusionists. The show is une-qualled as you see before your eyes stars like Elton John, Cher, An-drea Bocelli, Lady Gaga and many more. The show is a one-in-a-
lifetime opportunity, and for those lucky enough, it is happening again. Tickets go on sale on August 1st at the Collaborative Center. The cost is $50 per person. Tables of 10 may be purchased as well as individual tickets. Bring your own snacks. Ask anyone who saw the Twins last years if you should attend this show. Invite your friends and family. They will be forever grateful. Checks should be made payable to St Anne. Thank you
Companions of St Joseph Fr. Bill McIntire will be back this year for the 13th
annual Companions of St Joseph Mass to be celebrated
on Sunday, August 5th at 9:00 AM in the downstairs
chapel at Most Precious Blood. The Mass is especially
for all former parishioners of St Joseph Parish (Wood
Ave, Hyde Park), which closed in 2004. A light
collation will follow the Mass.
High School Harbor Cruise The Summer Harbor Cruise is back! Boat departs
Wednesday, August 16th from 7:30-11 pm, from and
returns to the Mass Bay Lines port at Rowe's Wharf in
Boston Harbor (60 Rowe’s Wharf, Boston). There is no
bus, so we encourage groups of teens to carpool in to
the boat. Open to high school students going into 9th-
12th grade, as well as those who graduated in 2017.
Friends of parish teens are welcome, as long as they are
also grades 9-12 and 2017 grads.
During the last 2 years, we have had more than 65
teenagers from the Blue Hills Collaborative go on the
cruise with 300 other teens from different parishes, and
they loved it! The cost is $20/pp, which includes the bus
and the boat. There are refreshments available for
purchase on the boat. There will also be a DJ providing
music.
Every teen must have an adult complete a permission
slip (available at the Collaborative Center or on the
website) and bring it with a $20 check made payable to
St. Anne Parish to the Collaborative Center (or pay
online), 20 Como Road, Readville. Please place slips
and money in a sealed envelope marked "Fr. Coyne
Harbor Cruise." We MUST receive your envelope by
Tuesday, August 8, 5 pm to reserve your place.
Prints of the Face of Jesus On the weekend of May 6/7 I included in my homily a
picture I have in my room of the face of Christ. I
displayed it at the altar at those Masses. As you
approach the picture you realize that the face of Christ is
made up of hundreds of photos of men and women. It
truly gives a whole new meaning to the words “the
Body of Christ.” Many people admired the print, so I
decided to buy 50 copies of it, which are now on sale at
the Collaborative Center. It is just the print without a
frame. The cost per print is $15 (what I paid). The prints
are 9X12. First come, first served. Look at it from afar
and then move closer to get the meaning.

Vacation Bible School The parishes of the Blue Hills Collaborative are proud to announce the First Annual Vacation Bible School, which will be held Monday to Friday, August 14-18, 2017 from 9 am to 12 noon, at the Collaborative Center. This year, we will have an Olympic/Sports themed program where kids in grades K-5 will be inspired to set GOALS and AIM for a commitment to excellence in their Catholic faith. Cost for the week is just $25 and includes a free tee shirt for anyone who signs up before July 24. We are still looking for a handful of adults and mature teens who enjoy working with young children to assist us with preparation and working with the kids during the week of VBS. For more information, please contact St Anne’s parishioner Angela Cross, Sheila Farley or Stephen May. Registration is now open on our website, and forms will be available in the back of each church until July 9th and at the Collaborative Center thereafter.
Missionaries to speak at Collaborative Masses Once a year each parish is expected to invite missionaries to preach at the weekend Masses for the Propagation of the Faith (Archdiocesan arm of the Missions). At all Masses next weekend, July 29 and 30, Fr Bill Fay, the director of the Propagation office, will speak at all of the St Anne Masses and Fr Tom Coughlin (Oblates) will speak at the Masses at St Pius X and Most Precious Blood. Traditionally, the 2nd collection at those Masses is taken up for the Missions throughout the world. We welcome Fr Fay and Fr Coughlin and ask you to be as welcoming and generous as always. Thank you
Riverside Theatre The famous Riverside Theater in Cleary Square will present “Thoroughly Modern Millie” on Thursday/Friday, August 3rd and 4th. This is a performance put on by teenagers of our community and beyond. The shows are always top caliber and we highly recommend the experience to our parishioners and friends.
