“Bell” Times for 2016-17

• Growth in Student Population over first four years from 394 to 1093

• Next year, grade 9 class projected at 392

• Total student population will be 1200 to 1225 range

• May not be able to schedule common lunch

“Bell” Times Continued

• Currently we have a 60 minute common lunch

• Many advantages: shorter day, extra help sessions, clubs/activities available to all, intermural sports as gym is available, teams can practice

• The number of classes available, especially for special purpose classrooms is more limited with a common lunch

• We may need to move to a five period instructional day which would mean adding 20 minutes to the day (eg start at 8:10)

• We’ll seek feedback from students, staff and parents

• Final decision won’t be made until we have our numbers confirmed ---we’re able to delay longer than most schools because of no buses

OFSAA Volleyball

• Senior Boys’ Volleyball AA championship in Kenora, November 24th to 29th

• Team Won the Consolation Championsip

• Thanks to Coach Jessica Beltran and to Will Muir for chaperoning the team

December 18 Timetable

• All Halton schools will dismiss 90 minutes early

• GWSS will have a special schedule that includes an assembly

• Schedule will be A,B,D,E, Assembly, then C (lunch) at the end

• There will not be caf service at lunch that day

Prom 2016

• Prom Committee established

• Melissa Senn & Natasha Cannon are staff reps

• Survey of students re date & location

• Date chosen is May 18

• Location is Atlantis in Toronto

• Cost will be same as last year: $80 early bird, $85 after that

• Fully school sponsored with staff supervision; school rules apply

Staffing Update

Currently Peter Clarkin is on leave (shoulder) and is being replaced by Mark Rullo and Elias Papoulsis to end of Semester I

Karl Mustoe has returned

Jacquie Schettler is off to end of January and Sarah Kelly has taken over her classes

• We have hired teachers for the sections advertised:

• Lisa Samuels (com sci)• Kaitlyn Teszeri (French)• Paul Grondin (accounting)• Hilary Rivett (biology)• There will be more LTOs:

Sophia Maras, Janine Bean, Alex Cardona, Kelly Laycock

Labour Update

• All labour groups (for secondary) have reached settlements

• CUPE Contract settled and ratified

• Support Workers (organized by OSSTF) have reached a contract settlement and so sanctions for this group have been lifted (ratification of deal pending)

Exams

• Semester I final exams run from January 28 to February 3

• One exam per day starting at 9:00 a.m.

• Week B Schedule; students write in their regular classroom, supervised by their teacher

Pink Game Cheque Presentation to Cancer Society$1000 donation to the Canadian Cancer Society the proceeds from the “Pink” Game (football versus Abbey Park). Students made a $2 donation to attend the game.
