Freegrounds Junior School - Topic Plan Year Group: 6 Topic Title: FANTASTIC BEASTS Term: SPRING 1
SCIENCE
Recognise that living things have changed over time and that fossils provide information about living things that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago
Recognise that living things produce offspring of the same kind, but normally offspring vary and are not identical to their parents
Identify how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that adaptation may lead to evolution
As scientists, we will be investigating fossils and looking for similarities and
differences between living things from the past and today. We will investigate the similarities and differences between living things and their offspring and consider why
this happens. We will look in depth at the adaptation of birds in Dawin’s Theory of Evolution and use investigative models to draw conclusions.
We will be curious, asking why animals have changed how they may change in the
future.
ART
Drawing- Use HB and 2B pencils, graphite sticks, crayon, chalk pastels, oil pastels, charcoal, felt-tips, ball point pen and water colour pencils.
Painting- Use round and flat head paintbrushes in different sizes, use watercolours, use poster paints

As artists, we will be using the work of Tim Jeffs to study reptiles eyes and scales. We will be experiment with different mediums and techniques to create a detailed and accurate picture of a dragon eye before creating a 3D sculpture
in clay of our dragon's eye.
We will be aspirational in our creativity, challenging ourselves to take risks in the artistic choices we make.

Improvise and compose music for a range of purposes using the interrelated dimensions of music
