Example: Transient Insecurity Warning
35
WSAT reported a v transient stability problem. The loss of Kilbarry Marina 2 110kV line resulted in AD2 and WG1 going unstable. Factors which influenced NCC response included high output of AD2 and WG1 at the time The following action was taken reduced both AD2 and WG1 to 410MW exported.
Dr Ivan Dudurych “Dynamic Security of a Synchronous System with High Wind Penetration”
Example: Voltage Insecurity Warning
36
WSAT reported a voltage stability problem.
The loss of the Castlebar SVC resulted in voltage issues in
Moy, Tawnaghmore and Glenree (currently on a tail)...
Decision taken to switch in Moy 110 kV Cap 1 as soft closing is
available on this cap.

Final Remarks • Transmission System Operational Security will be affected by a
significant penetration of wind Generation
• In order to maintain Operational Security standards, even better balancing of active and reactive power across the power transmission system is needed
• Secure Wind Generation Level (SWL) and Secure SNSP Concepts denote how much wind power can be kept instantaneously on the system without compromising Operational Security standards.
• On-line Tool for Monitoring Dynamic Security of the Power Transmission System WSAT in combinations with other EMS tools gives opportunity to operate system securely while maximizing renewable penetration
