Coming up:

5th graders Bianca Pinilla, Olivia Pinilla, and
Spencer Millwood, and 4th graders Dani Reis
and Robert Lupea ranked amongst the top 5
pre-audition scores from Panther Run
Elementary and were selected as finalists to
audition for a spot in the 2015 Florida All State
Elementary Chorus. These 5 finalists were
invited to sing at a West Broward Innovative
Zone Meeting at West Broward High School on
October 16. This performance gave our
finalists an opportunity to showcase their
wonderful voices in a public performance
together. On October 20, 260 elementary
students from the entire state of Florida
Winter Variety Show December 10th, 6:00 pm
PRE Cafeteria
were selected by the FEMEA to participate in the Florida All State Choir. Only 21 students from Broward
County were selected, and 3 of those students were our own Olivia Pinilla, Spencer Millwood, and Dani
Reis. These students will represent Panther Run Elementary in the All State Elementary Choir at the
State Conference held in January 2015. We are proud of all of our students for their hard work, and
wish our All State participants good luck as they represent Panther Run this January in Tampa, Florida.

Meet our Assistant Principal Dr. Shannon Michael Chacona I was born in the small town of Sayre, Pennsylvania and grew up in an area that sits
on the border of Northeastern Pennsylvania and upstate New York. This area, which
we fondly call “the valley,” is made up of Sayre, Pennsylvania, Athens, Pennsylvania
and Waverly, New York. I am the eldest of two children, with my sister Keisha being
two years younger. I am lucky to have a large extended family on both my mother
and father’ side, which made growing up in a small town even more fun.
Looking back, being raised in a small town with such a loving family is something I wouldn’t change. I have many
wonderful memories; from playing in the woods to hanging out at my grandparents’ restaurant. But growing up in
a small town is definitely what influenced my decision to attend college in an urban area.
I was accepted at Lynn University in Boca Raton to pursue my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership while working at
Coral Sunset Elementary School. I was privileged to have Dr. William Leary, former Broward County
Superintendent, as one of my professors. Dr. Leary became my mentor and dissertation committee chair and guided
me through to graduation.
Shortly after, I transferred from Palm Beach County Schools to Broward County Schools and built a home in
Southwest Broward. I was fortunate to find a position at Glades Middle School as the Guidance Director. Knowing
that I wanted to pursue a career in Elementary School Administration, I transferred to Silver Lakes Elementary in
Miramar where I worked once again as an Elementary School Guidance Counselor for just over three years.
Upon beginning my fourth year at Silver Lakes Elementary, my dream was realized when I was promoted as the
Assistant Principal at Sheridan Park Elementary School in Hollywood. I enjoyed working with the students and
their families at Sheridan Park for just over three years. In the fall of 2010, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity
to become the Assistant Principal at Panther Run Elementary. I am proud to be a Panther and fully embrace our
PIF-WIAMAD, “Pay It Forward and Who I Am Makes A Difference” culture. We are lucky to have supportive
teachers, parents, and community members who all play a vital role in developing our students.
My goal in life continues to be focused on making a positive impact on all students and their families. I believe that
when learning in an environment like we have at Panther Run, all students can grow and achieve to their highest
potential.

2014-2015 PTA Board Members
PTA is the largest volunteer child
advocacy association in the nation; we can proudly make this claim because of the thousands of members worldwide. Any organization is only as strong as its
individual links. Without your membership, PTA would not be the
driving force for today's children.
It may seem like such a small gesture: I joined my child's PTA, but it has such
large implications. National PTA, with its state and local unit members, has
established programs and called for
legislation, which has improved our
children's lives, such as: the creation of Kindergarten classes, child labor laws,
hot and healthy lunch programs,
mandatory immunization, and arts in education.
All this was done by people willing to become a member of
PTA. Membership does matter!
So when someone walks up and asks
you to join the PTA, just do it!
