Standards are guidance documents developed by groups
that have (hopefully) studied the area and are making
recommendations. Thus, standards are not legal
requirements unless something or someone else has madethem a requirement.
Standard setters include the American Society of
Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Engineers (ASHRAE),
Illuminating Engineering Society of North American (ISENA),
and American Council of Governmental and IndustrialHygienists (ACGIH).

Legislation
AEE/ Certified Energy Manager CEMAEE/ Certified Energy Manager CEM DD -- 33
Legislation is a law and thus the subject matter covered is
required legally. Legislation must be passed by some
governmental authority to be a law.
Often legislation is somewhat vague and the manifestation or
full explanation of the requirements must be written in "codes.
In US, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
is a very famous federal law.

Codes
AEE/ Certified Energy Manager CEMAEE/ Certified Energy Manager CEM DD -- 44
Codes are the manifestation (or written legal requirements) of
legislation.
Legislation and codes may and often do draw from standards.
For example, many state building codes draw their technical
strength from ASHRAE 90.1.

General Organization for Exports and Imports Control (GOEIC) under theMinistry of Supply and Trade (MST). The main objectives of GOEIC are:
The examination of exports and imports
Preparation of the associated statistical reports and analysis regardingexports and imports
Preparation of financial balances regarding exports and imports
