College FarmhouseCollege Farmhouse is an outstanding example of a
country house that has been sympathetically restored
to accommodate modern family living. Built of Cotswold
stone under a stone slate roof, this handsome house
has been restored to a very high standard. The historic
elements of the house such as the period fireplaces, the
stone mullion windows and working shutters have been
respected throughout the restoration.
The main reception rooms are in the oldest part of the
house which retains solid oak or limestone floors and
elegant proportions. The impressive 517 sq ft sitting room,
historically referred to as the “Great Parlour”, is ideal for
entertaining large numbers and fitted with a large wood
burner and surround sound system. The kitchen/living/
dining area is approached through a glass link and can
only be described as a master class in contemporary
design. This modern family area is light and spacious with
full height glass sliding panels, floating glazed balcony,
under floor heating and exposed timbers in the vaulted
ceiling. There is a large central island and floor to ceiling
oak cupboards plus the entire area is equipped with Wi-Fi,
zoned lighting and surround sound. The adjoining open
plan dining area shares a double sided wood burner and
enjoys views over the south facing garden. To the rear
there is a large utility/boot room.
Upstairs the accommodation is both welcoming and
versatile. On the first floor there are three ensuite
bedrooms including a substantial master suite, a further
three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second floor
and above the kitchen/living area there is a games room/
bedroom 6.
Outside, the gardens are delightfully sheltered and secure
with two sets of electric gates and a traditional wall
framing the property. The gardens are mostly laid to lawn,
and include fruit trees, an illuminated water feature and a
summer house.
BamptonWithin Bampton is a grocer, butcher, Post Office, art
gallery and a fine parish church, recently famed for its
part in the Downton Abbey television series. There is
also a library, medical practice, a garden shop and four
public houses. There are sports facilities within the village,
including football, cricket and tennis clubs.
To the north, Burford offers a further range of
facilities including public houses, restaurants
and The Burford Garden Centre, with the City
of Oxford being the main shopping and cultural
centre for the region.
The market town of Witney provides extensive
shopping facilities including a Waitrose
supermarket, shopping centre and cinema. Also
within easy distance are the commercial centres
of Cheltenham, Swindon and Reading.
Bampton is well positioned for a range of
excellent state and independent schools,
including primary schools in Clanfield and
Bampton. Other excellent schools in the area
include; St Hugh’s, Cothill House Preparatory
School, Cokethorpe, The Dragon and Oxford
schools, Abingdon and Radley College.
