Athletes Start in Sport Clean

Our Prevention Ethos

All Athletes start

clean.

All athletes should be

clean, stay clean and

believe all others are

clean too.

Why Education?

Values-based

education

reinforces what

we love about

sport

Intervention at a younger

age is more likely to change

a culture long term

Strong values

increase ethical

and moral

decision making

Preventing doping starts with ‘beginners’!

Get Set for the Spirit of Sport

Respect

officials &

competitors

Introduces

100% me

values

Teaches

sportsmanship/

womanship e.g.

Win with grace –

Lose with dignity

Respect for

your own body

Healthy eating

Schools

programme

No need to mention anti-doping!

The lessons had a positive impact on students knowledge of sporting values, with sportsmanship increasing significantly

Respect Healthy eating Sportsmanship Fair play

Pre Post

Students knowledge of values Prior to lessons,

secondary students more

likely than primary to

know about

sportsmanship (88% vs.

74%) and fair play (94%

vs. 87%).

Following the lessons,

sporty students more

likely to know about

sportsmanship than not

sporty students (95% vs.

85%).

Respect has been the most important and marked improvement. We have introduced

shaking hands, thanking the ref, etc. into every PE lesson as well as school matches.

Greatly improved attitude and much better in inter-school matches as well. Behaviour

at matches (inability to lose graciously) had previously been a real problem for some of

my sportier children. Teacher, Year 6
