Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School held its Senior Night graduation ceremonies at
Essex High School May 20.Eighty-eight seniors received blue and
green honor cords to wear at their home school graduation ceremonies. The Class of 2014 has collectively earned 4,258 hours of community service, 2084 of which were environmental. Twenty-two seniors received the CBGS Community Service Award, a gold cord, for at least 120 hours served over their three years in the program.
Seven seniors earned an associate’s from Rappahannock Community College includ-ing King William County students Markia Anderson, Hailey Bowler, Sarah Eacho, Dylan Melton and Rebecca Rieling; Lancaster County student Ronald Cutler; and Mathews County student Virginia Jarvis.
The Class of 2014 also has earned over $3.4
million in scholarships and awards as of May 20.
Dr. Richard Shores, a member of the CBGS Joint School Board, welcomed the graduates and their families. The guest speakers were Hiba’Ann Seager, a 2013 CBGS graduate (Caroline County), a sophomore at Columbia University major-ing in economics and political science; and Tahir Ahmad, a 2012 CBGS graduate (King George County), a junior at the University of Virginia majoring in foreign affairs and history.
They each advised the graduating seniors on what challenges they will face next year. Everyone enjoyed a slide show depicting highlights of the seniors’ time at CBGS.

After addressing the senior class, head of school Lindy MacDonald Williams honored each graduate by reflecting on her time at St. Margaret’s and sharing the impact each girl made on the school. William Tyson of the St. Margaret’s School board of governors assisted in the conferring of the diplo-mas.
