• In-Class Activities – group activities to introduce and practice interaction design techniques, similar to lab-style activities.

• Readings – recent book chapters and online resources related to interaction design.

• Projects – 1 individual and 2 group projects covering different phases of the interaction design project lifecycle, including (1) exploring a design space, (2) generating design concepts, and (3) refining design concepts, ultimately producing an interactive prototype for an industry client.

• Critiques – in-class group critiques of the design concepts produced for each project, including an end-of-semester public showcase of the interactive prototypes for the final project.

ImmersedGames is a start-up building an educational MMORPG. The objective of

this project is to design a data dashboard for both children and their parents to track

their progress in the game and overall. Design for educational needs and for kids

Trendy is a gaming company best known for its multiplayer tower defense / action RPG game “Dungeon Defenders”. The

• Develop a pixel-perfect interactive prototype for the third project (whereas undergraduates must only develop a wireframe-fidelity interactive prototype).

• Conduct one additional user-centered design iterationon the third project, involving working with 16 to 20 users (as opposed to 6 to 8 users for undergraduates).

• Lead 1 weekly discussion thread on the course readings and material by posting facilitating questions based on the readings and / or current design practice (in addition to the required 2 weekly discussion posts).

• Sign up will begin starting Week 2.

• NOTE: undergraduates may do these for extra credit. See me to discuss prior to doing so. Your entire group must agree if opting for increased complexity in Project #3.

• If you have a question! Use the Canvas “Questions for the Instructor/TA” thread so all students can benefit.

• All late assignments will be penalized -10% for each day late. After 3 days, students will receive a 0.

• Attendance will not be graded. Engagement in class discussions is graded, however, so if students must miss class, the instructor recommends increasing participation on the other days.

• Incompletes will be granted for only the most extreme circumstances, e.g., medical or family reasons.
