2. ATEX Protection Types
The use of electrical apparatus inpotentially explosive atmospheres is quiteusual today.This equipment has to be manufacturedin such a way that there is no risk ofexplosion.An explosion occurs when the threefollowing conditions happen: presence of a potentially explosive
atmosphere; possibility of transmission of theexplosion
existence of an ignition source
The recognized types of protection
2.Schutzarten
potentiellement explosive;possibilit de transmission del'explosion;
existence de sources d'amorage.

eliminate one of these conditions andthus make an explosion impossible.
In practice, four types of protection areapplicable to electric motors:- pressurized apparatus (symbol Ex p);
- flameproof enclosure (symbol Ex d);- increased safety (symbol Ex e);- non sparking protection (symbol Ex n);
Flameproof motors have an additionaltype of protection (symbol Ex de)which is a combination of:- flameproof enclosure d for motorframe;- increased safety e for terminal box.
Ex p);- druckfeste Kapselung (Symbol Ex d);- erhhte Sicherheit (Symbol Ex e);- Funkenschutz (Symbol Ex n).
- appareil pressuris (symbole Ex p);- enveloppe antidflagrante (symbole Exd);- scurit augmente (symbole Ex e);- protection anti-tincelles (symbole Ex n).

3.Dangerous areas and zones
Dangerous areas include any area in
which explosive atmospheres mayoccur under specific conditions.
An explosive atmosphere is a mixtureof air and combustible gases, vapours,fumes or dust under atmosphericconditions where combustion expandsitself (explosion) after ignition.
The user shall classify the hazardousareas as indicated in the Europeandirective 1999/92/EC under his ownresponsibility.
International standards IEC 60079-10-1and 60079-10-2 provide instructions onhow to classify the hazardous areas inrelation to the chemical nature, to thephysical characteristics and to theamount of substances used and basedon the frequency and period of time inwhich an explosive mix may develop.
Zones susceptible to gasWhen the hazard is due to thepresence of gas, vapours or mixture offlammable substances, the Europeandirective 1999/92/EC classifies in threezones defined as follows:
Zone 0 Areas which are susceptibleto an explosive atmosphere constantlyor for long periods of time. Powerequipment with double level of

protection must be installed in this area. pendant de longues priodes, prsente.
Zone 1 Areas where an explosiveatmosphere is likely to develop duringnormal conditions.Flameproof electric motors or motors
with added protection means can beinstalled in this zone (for the latter,restrictions by the standards apply).
Zone 2 Areas rarely susceptible to anexplosive atmosphere and for a shortperiod of time.Flameproof electric motors or motorswith added protection can be installedin this zone, as well as non-sparkingmotors.
Zones susceptible to combustibledust
When the hazard is due to thepresence of combustible dust, theEuropean directive 1999/92/ECclassifies three zones defined asfollows:
Zone 20 Areas which are susceptibleto an explosive atmosphere constantlyor for long periods of time.Power apparatus cannot be installed inthis zone.
Zone 21 Areas where an explosiveatmosphere is likely to develop duringnormal conditions.
Electric motors certified in compliancewith the ATEX directive with IP6Xprotection rating can be installed in thiszone.
Zone 22 Areas rarely susceptible toan explosive atmosphere, and only fora short period of time. In the presenceof conductive dust, electric motorscertified in compliance with the ATEXdirective with protection rating IP6X canbe installed in this zone, whereas in thepresence of non conductive dust,motors with protection rating IP5X and
a declaration of conformity issued bythe manufacturer can be installed.

5. Enclosure groups
The standards classify electricalequipment into two groups.Group I: electric apparatus to be installedin mines or galleries susceptible tofiredamp or coal dust.Group II: electric apparatus to be installedin surface plants susceptible to otherexplosive atmospheres.The enclosures for equipment intended foruse on the surface, providing dprotection (flameproof), are divided intothree sub-groups, in relation to theinflammable substances for which they aresuitable: Group IIA, Group IIB, Group IIC.A motor that belongs to a certainenclosure group is also suitable for lowerenclosure groups: a motor in group IIB isalso suitable for group IIA; a motor ingroup IIC is also suitable for group IIA andIIB.
5. Schutzkapsel Gruppen

6. Temperature classes (for gasatmospheres)
The electrical apparatus is classified into 6classes according to the maximum surfacetemperatures (See Table 4).
The maximum surface temperature is thehighest temperature which is attained byany part of the electrical apparatus inservice under the conditions described inthe standards and which could ignite thesurrounding atmosphere.
For electric motors this is: the temperature of the outside surface
of the enclosure for d and pprotection modes;
the temperature of any internal orexternal point for type of protection e
or n.
6. Temperaturklassen(fr gashaltigeAtmosphren)
Oberflche der Kapselung fr dieSchutzart d und p;

7. Combustion temperatures ofgases, vapours and groups
Combustible gases and vapours aredivided into classes according to theirignition temperature and into groups
according to their explosive capacity.
Markings on motors and otherelectrical equipment with the symbolsused to indicate the protection mode,the enclosure group, and thetemperature class, specify the zone inwhich such equipment can be installed.

8. Temperature for atmosphereswith combustible dusts
The flash point of the dust must be taken
into account in providing protection againstflammable dust, where this is both in cloudform and in layers (see table 5).
The surface temperature of the enclosureindicated on the motor nameplate must beless than the reference ignitiontemperature.
The reference temperature is the lowestbetween the two values calculated asfollows:
TS1 =32 Tcl (Tcl ignition temperature of
the cloud of dust)TS2 = T5mm 75K (T5mm ignitiontemperature of a 5mm layer of dust)
8. Temperatur fr Umgebungen mitbrennbarem Staub
TS1 =32 Tcl (Tcl Entzndungstemperatur
der Staubwolke)TS2 = T5mm 75K (T5mm Entzndungstemperatur einer Staubschichtvon 5 mm).
TS1=32 Tcl (Tcl temprature

Noise level
Noise measurements are performed toIEC 60034-9. They apply for no load at 50Hz. The tolerance is +3 dB(A). At 60 Hz
the values of sound pressure increaseapproximately by 4 dB(A).
Coupling drive
When aligning a motor to be coupleddirectly to the machine, care must betaken that the balls of the bearings do notjam. Elastic couplings are permissible withall motors. To ensure vibration-freerunning and to avoid any inadmissiblestress on the bearings, the machine to becoupled must still be exactly aligned in thecase of elastic coupling. Maximum
accuracy must be applied to the couplingof 2-pole motors.
Belt drive
Slide rails are used for motors for easytensioning and readjustment at the belts.Permissible radial forces have to be takeninto consideration (See Table 10).Pulleysand couplings must only be fitted andremoved by means of specific tools.
GeruschpegelDie Geruschpegelwerte sind gem denNormen IEC 60034-9 gemessen worden.Die Nenndaten enthalten dieSchalldruckwerte Lp in dB(A) fr jeden
Motortyp.
Accouplement direct
Lors de l'accouplement direct, alignercorrectement le moteur et la machinecommande afin d'viter toutendommagement ou grippage desroulements. L'accouplement avec un jointlastique est admis sur tous les moteurs;
