Form Vs. Shape

I have a Question for you.

• Write these down and be sure to save room to answer each one in a complete sentence.

• What is the difference between a circle and a sphere?

• What is the difference Between shape and form?We will discuss then you mayAnswer.

Well…

• Definitions (you can but don’t need to write this down… yet.• Shape: Definition: (noun) - A shape is one of the

seven elements of art. When defining it within the study of art, shape is an enclosed space, the boundaries of which are defined by other elements of art (i.e.: lines, colors, values, textures, etc.).

• Shapes are limited to two dimensions: length and width. Geometric shapes -- circles, rectangles, squares, triangles and so on -- have the clear edges one achieves when using tools to create them. Organic shapes have natural, less well-defined edges (think: an amoeba, or a cloud).

So then these are all shape then, right?

Is this a shape?

Is this a shape?

So can we shorten that definition?

• Shape: an enclosed space created by any of the elements of art. IE line, color, texture, value.

More definitions.

• Form: (noun) - Form is one of the seven elements of art. At its most basic, a form is a three-dimensional geometrical figure (i.e.: sphere, cube, cylinder, cone, etc.), as opposed to a shape, which is two-dimensional, or flat.

• In a broader sense, form, in art, means the whole of a piece's visible elements and the way those elements are united. In this context, form allows us as viewers to mentally capture the work, understand it and attempt to analyze it.

Yay! Or Nah! To form or not to form.

basicsFor basically occurs when a shape gets two mores dimensions (height, width, or depth)

forming simple

• Form: a shape that is not flat. Created by showing light to dark (gradient, value). Got it memorized.

Lets try this again

Practice time

Get this memorized.

Now

• Based on what you have learned so far, draw a cube.
