Engineering at ENRMF 12 October 2011

High Density Polyethylene Liner

As you may know, the new landfill cell at the East Northants ResourceManagement Facility is currently being engineered.

Our contractors, Buckingham, are making excellent progress and have now laidand compacted the clay liner and tested its permeability. Today saw the start oflaying the High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) liner.

Once more we would like to invite members of the community to come to thesite and see how the new cell is being expertly engineered and constructed tomeet the modern requirements of a landfill site.

If you are interested, you can view the engineering at the site for the next twoweeks October 17-21 and 24 -28 by appointment Monday to Friday 10.00 amuntil 4.00 pm with the Site Manager, Simon Moyle on 01780 444905 or byemailing us at consultation@augeanplc.com

Augean operate an open door policy at all their sites. You are welcome to visitthe site at any other time, by appointment, if there are other aspects of siteoperations that interest you.

NEWS RELEASE

ENGINEERING OPEN DAY

EAST NORTHANTS RESOURCE MANAGEMENT FACILITY

Augean PLC is once again opening up their East Northants Resource Management Facility (ENRMF)

to the public. Following the very successful Site Open Day in June, members of the local community

will this time be able to see the construction of one of the highly engineered cells where wastes are

deposited.

At the Site Open Day it was apparent that many local people were unaware of the extent of

engineering involved in the containment systems of a landfill site such as ENRMF. As work on the

engineering of cell 5A has begun, the Company has decided that this presents a valuable opportunity

show the public the nature and extent of the engineering of a waste cell and the high degree of

environmental protection this provides.

Each weekday from Monday 5 September until Friday 16 September, the public can see the

engineering in progress between 11:00 and 16:00 and also on Saturday 10 September from 9:00 to

13:00. As the site will be operational during most of these times, for Health and Safety reason

potential visitor are asked to telephone or email the site to arrange an appointment for their visit.

Dr Gene Wilson, Group Technical Director at Augean, said, ‘Unfortunately, it is a very common

misconception that landfill sites are just holes in the ground where rubbish is “dumped”. This could

not be further from the truth. In reality landfill sites have well-considered, highly engineered

containment systems that offer a very high level of environmental protection. We look forward to

welcoming as many people as possible to the site, so that they can see this for themselves.’

If you are unable to come to the Engineering Open Day but would like more information about the

proposals or would like to be updated about the applications through our information register

please visit www.augeanplc.com or email: consultation@augeanplc.com or telephone: 01904

654989.

Hi Simon

Many thanks for your time and efforts on Saturday in describing the engineering of the site.

I came away with a good overview of both the phases and QA procedures of the construction the sitecells. Sight of the labelled diagram of the cross-section of the cell construction was particularly useful aswere your descriptions of the construction processes such as the rolling of the clay and the welding of theHDPE

Subject: Thank you for the tour

Simon,

Just a short thank you to you for giving me and Philip Wright such an

excellent run down on operations, activities and procedures today at your

site. Very interesting and extremely helpful. Perhaps a few more local

worthies should avail themselves of such information.

Best wishes.

From: William BaxterSent: 07 September 2011 18:16To: Simon MoyleSubject: Monday's visit

I wish to thank you on behalf of Steve Reed and myself for your hospitality and tour of the sitelast Monday. I found it not only very interesting, but very informative. Certainly a change from theprevious site management. So much dis-information and inaccurate talk locally, one came away with thetrue picture and a great deal of confidence. I hope you achieve your aim and the local community have abetter understanding of your facility and gain trust. I certainly was assured, particularly with theengineering, and the vehicle movements.

Again I would like to thank you and all those involved in the grant scheme, which has beengenerous towards our community and St. Kyneburgha’s church.
