Starling Marte • Outfielder for the Pittsburgh

Pirates • 24• From the Dominican Republic• Mother Died when he was 10,

he was raised by his grandmother

• He can relate to missing a parent just like Amachi kids

Travis Snider• Outfielder for Pittsburgh Pirates• 24• In the span of 2 years (in his teens)

he lost 2 grandparents, a coach, and a close friend

• Not long after all that his mother died in a car accident

• Says he used all this loss to spur on his hard work and channeled it into his baseball

• This could make him a great role model for the kids in Amachi

Event Idea #1: Tailgate• Lead up mini events: have partner organizations host

tailgates at local high school football games, sell food and drinks and pay to play games to raise money

• Large Event: Tailgate “Gala” for an away Steelers game (could even be at Heinz field?)– Host in large hall, get large screen TV’s so people

can watch the game– Ongoing Silent Auction during game– ½ time live auction (celebrity auctioneer?)– Food, drinks, etc.

Tailgate• This could be a good way to start off with a smaller

scale event with potential to build to something larger

• Might be difficult and expensive to aim too high right off the bat with getting celebrities involved

• More innovative and something a bit different than a normal Gala

• Create goal of what you want event to be in the future and use this event to build towards it

• Do during away game to ensure that big $$ people who have season tickets or boxes will come

Tailgate: How do we use as fundraiser?

• Silent Auction: Donated Items• Live Auction: Donated Items• Ticket Sales• Sell “tents”- pop up tents to big corporations- same

concept as buying a table at a Gala but instead we could have a pop up tent and their company logo could be printed on it-works if the event is indoor and outdoor-if just indoor do a table sale and make a big center piece with company logo (good advertising for company)

Tailgate: Promotions/Publicity

• Radio Station: have a popular radio station broadcast live from the event as well as DJ and MC live auction- this will also create a pre event push because the radio station can talk about it to their fans weeks in advance

• Press Releases • Event Sponsors- advertisements on their websites • Social Media • Website for event

Event Idea #2: Dick’s Sporting Goods Yinzer Fashion Show

• Have Dick’s sponsor a fashion show where Athletes model each other's Jerseys

• Jersey’s can be auctioned off • Food, drinks, music, etc

• Obviously a larger scale event• Harder to get athletes and most likely more difficult to

plan• May get a bigger turn out because of the athletes

involved• Potential to raise more money with auction of

autographed items and higher ticket sales• Gala with a fun twist

• Ticket sales/ Front row seats • Auction off autographed jerseys• For additional donate, winners can get a picture of

both the athlete whom the jersey belongs to and the one who wore it

• Auction off other sports equipment donated by Dick’s and signed by athletes

• Donation required athlete photographs and autographs • All these different options create different levels of

fundraising so people can do what they can afford, and we have a chance to ensure everyone contributes

Yinzer Fashion Show: Promotions

• Same concept of having a radio show broadcast from event

• Possibility to get sports casters to broadcast or host event/MC event

• Connection to Dick’s and Athletes creates larger social media reach

• PR push: press release, media alerts, etc. • Also more likely to get outlets to come and

cover the event
