1): Main Beam Quadrupole prototypes (LONG and SHORT)

1a) Procurement STATUS at TESLA– UK (coils manufacturing):- Drawings “for manufacturing: completed after an iteration due

to Tesla request (see after)- Materials (steel): delivered from CERN- Manufacturing plan: completed- Production: started

During the engineering of the coils exit, TESLA encountered some problem in respecting the requested dimension. So, they required to have slightly more space to develop the heads coils winding. We accept it and slightly changed the length of the iron yoke to leave unchanged the OVERALL length of the magnets (this apply to the LONG and SHORT prototypes)

1): Main Beam Quadrupole prototypes (LONG and SHORT)

1b) Procurement STATUS at Heeze – NL (steel quadrants manufacturing):- Drawings “for manufacturing: completed after an iteration due to TESLA request

on coils longitudinal dimension: steel quadrants are now slightly SHORTER (1844 1827 mm; 344 332 mm):

- Materials (steel): delivered from CERN- High precision machining: started

It will be done in 2 steps: 1st at Heeze (machining), 2nd at “De Rooij Slijperij” (final high-precision grinding)Despite our request to have the LONG quadrants done before, the Company strongly asked to produce some samples and the SHORT quadrants before. We now expect to have the short quadrant ready for beginning of January and the long for end of January…

- By discussions (and samples) with the Company on how design the most performing (most precise) quadrants assembly, we decided to have the short quadrants machined with an alternative assembly solution (see photo and samples).

2): EXTRA quadrant (LONG) procurement

Procurement status at OSTROJ – CZ (for one steel quadrant manufacturing):

- LONG type quadrant, standard (CERN) drawing, no extra slots by wire-erosion), no extra holes for transport, no changes…They are starting the manufacturing; delivery expected also in January.

3): Dipole Corrector for MB quads

Study for a dipole corrector to be integrated in each MB quad (H. Smickler on September 09) :

- Required kick strength: 4 mT m (ex. 0.4T over 1 cm of magnetic ∙length).

- To be “attach” to each MB quad- First computation (A. Vorozhtsov) to investigate a design

compatible (ex. partially “nested”) with the MB quadrupole (see next slides)

- Detailed magnetic cross-talk computation (3D) ongoing.

• DB Quadrupoles:- Remind: in CLIC layout, DB quad gradient is varying from 8.12 to 81.2 T/m- For CLIC and CLEX Test Program we propose to procure 6-8 prototypes eventually investigating different technologies and design (Ex. standard EM design and Hybrid Permanent Magnet design)- In order to advance we need to decide which gradient will be necessary in the CLEX layout: last news says it should be in the range 0-8 T/m. Waiting a final confirmation from CLIC Physic Team.
