2 June 13-14, 2020 St. Charles Bor omeo Catholic Church
Today at 1 p.m., we will have a Corpus Christi procession, bringing Our Lord in the Eucharist through the streets from our
parish to St. Peter Parish.
The procession will be different this year. Rather than having parishioners walk in procession, we are asking everyone to simply park or stand along Second Street or in the parking lot of St. Peter Parish (more details on page 3).
Why do we have processions with the Blessed Sacrament?
We do it as a public expression of our faith. The procession is also a reminder to us that we are called to bring Christ out of the church and into the realities of daily life.
As Pope Benedict said, “We bring Christ onto the streets of our city. We entrust these streets, these homes, our daily life, to his goodness. May our streets be streets of Jesus! May our houses be homes for him and with him! May our life of every day be penetrated by his presence.”
It is especially fi tting that, in our procession, we will pass City Hall, the County Administration Building, the courthouse, and the county jail. As we do, we pray in a particular way that our laws, our judiciary, and our criminal justice system would respect the rights and dignity of all people. We pray that the grace of Christ, the Prince of Peace, would infuse all of these institutions.
We will also walk past the hospital. Especially during this time of pandemic, we pray for all of those who work in healthcare as well as for all who are sick, that they may experience the strength and the healing of Christ.
All of us are called to live out the reality of what our Corpus Christi procession represents. We are to be the ones who bring the presence of Christ into all aspects of our daily lives.
Especially as we celebrate this great feast, let all of us ask God to show us how we can bring Him into our homes, our families, our work, and our neighborhoods, so that His presence may fi ll all parts of the earth.
From the Pastor / Noticias del PárrocoPlease sign up for Sunday Masses each week!
We have been asked by the Archdiocese to have our parishioners register during the week for what Mass they will attend each Sunday.
Please go to http://bit.ly/scbmassattend each week to register your family for the Mass of your preference.
For us, registering for Sunday's Masses will serve two purposes:
1) As people become more comfortable attending Mass, we will likely need to add Masses to our current schedule, and your registration will help us make those decisions.
2) If we were to learn that one of our parishioners who attended Mass has contracted COVID-19, we can quickly notify all in attendance and begin contact tracing to stop any potential spread of the virus.
We know that it is an inconvenience and one more thing we're asking you to do this week, but we appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work through this diffi cult time together.
We will continue to keep you updated on our Mass schedule and any changes to the guidelines for attending Masses both by email and through our Facebook Page: facebook.com/Borromeo1791.
Remember that it is fi ne if you are not comfortable attending Mass at this time; the Archbishop has extended the dispensation of obligation until further notice.
Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you and your families during this time.

Corpus Christi ProcessionToday is the Feast of Corpus Christi. Normally, we would have a procession involving both St. Charles Borromeo Parish and St. Peter Parish.
Weather permitting, the procession will begin at St. Charles Borromeo at 1 p.m. and proceed to St. Peter. The procession will end with Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament outside St. Peter on the lower parking lot.
Due to social distancing regulations, we are asking parishioners NOT to walk in procession. Rather, you are invited to park along Second Street between Clark Street and First Capitol Drive, which is the route that the procession will follow, or in the parking lot of St. Peter.

4 June 13-14, 2020 St. Charles Bor omeo Catholic Church
Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body
and Blood of Christ. This day was once called Corpus Christi, which is Latin for “Body of Christ.” In the revised Lectionary the name for this day is expanded to refl ect more completely our Eucharistic theology.
Today’s Gospel is part of a discourse between Jesus and a crowd of Jews, shortly after the miracle of Jesus’s multiplication of the loaves and fi shes.
Having seen Jesus multiply the loaves and fi shes, the crowd pursues him, perhaps seeking more food but also looking for another sign. Jesus tells the crowd that he is the bread of life. He explains that just as God gave the Israelites manna to sustain them in the desert, so now God has sent new manna that will give eternal life. It is in this context that Jesus repeats those words in today’s Gospel and tells them again that
he is the living bread that came down from heaven.
Jesus’s words are not well understood by the crowd; they argue that Jesus is not from heaven but born of Mary and Joseph. The crowd also has trouble understanding how Jesus could give them his fl esh to eat. Jesus tells them that when they eat his
fl esh and drink his blood, they will remain forever connected to him. These are diffi cult words, but they are important because they seek to show us our intimate connection with Jesus.
This is the mystery that is at the heart of our Eucharistic theology. In the elements of bread and wine, Jesus’s Body and Blood are truly present. When we share in the Body and Blood of Christ, Jesus himself comes to dwell within us. This communion with the Lord makes us one body, brings us eternal life, and sends us forth to be Christ’s Body in the world.
