basic nuclear physics as it applies to radiation andradiological control, operation of electrical instrumentationand control equipment and systems, design and operational theoryof fluid system equipment, nuclear plant safety, overall plantoperation theory and casualty procedures. This knowledge isverified prior to attaining qualification via oral and writtenexaminations administered and witnessed by the Department ofEnergy. Periodic written and oral examinations are administeredby the shipyard to ascertain adequate retention of knowledge andunder standing of new or revised procedures. The Shift TestEngineer is the single shipyard authority for determining thatall necessary preparations are complete and provides finalapproval for commencement of the evolution. He directs theevolution, controlling all associated personnel, and reviews alldata for completeness and acceptability. This includes allrequests for work on systems (electrical and mechanical) whichmay have an effect on the reactor.

Lead Planning Engineer: Is responsible for directing andparticipating in engineering work related to development of testdocumentation to be used for conduct of complex integr atedreactor and propulsion plant testing and operation. The workassigned is broad in scope requiring considerable independentjudgement. In carrying out assignments the engineer isresponsible for: (1) extensive coordination with related groupsand reactor plant contractors; (2) integration of many differentrequirements within complex plant condition and sequencingconstraints, and; (3) technical direction and work review forassigned engineers and technicians.
