Art: Children will design and use a range of media to make their own propaganda poster linked to WW2.

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural: We will be exploring the moral dilemma in Michael Morpurgo’s Friend or Foe.

Visits and Visitors: A visitor from the British Legion will be coming in to share with us their involvement in WW2. We are exploring the possibility of visiting Duxford.

Learning Together (Parents): Parents will be invited in to help with the construction of aeroplanes.

Personal, Social, Health and Emotional: We will be exploring the school wide theme of ‘Count’. Children will be able to identify how they count and why they are valued.

Computing: We will use a range of software to publish our work, including designing and making our own rationing books.

Pot Kiln Primary School

Philosophy: We will be exploring the writing of Elie Wiesel – who was a survivor of the Holocaust.

DT: We are going to design and construct our own Anderson shelters in small groups. We will also be designing and making our own wooden framed aeroplanes.

WORLD WAR TWO

Maths: Multiplication and division, length perimeter and area, fractions and decimals.

Music: Children will be learning and performing the song ‘Lean on Me’ by Bill Withers.

Geography: We will be extending our locational knowledge by exploring the position of the Allied & Axis countries and how the war was fought both here in Europe and in the Pacific.

Learning Outside the Classroom: Will take place across the curriculum but specifically in DT (Anderson shelters).

Science: Children will investigate the effects of well-known forces on a variety of objects. They will also look at everyday uses of magnets and discover how sound is made and travels.

English: Children will write a variety of texts based around our stimulus of ‘Friend or Foe’ by Michael Morpurgo.

P.E:. Children will play dodge ball and self-assess to develop tem work and technique to achieve better results.

History: We will be learning about the Allied and Axis forces in WW2 as well as exploring how our local community was impacted during the war.

R.E: We will be looking at Hinduism and Sikhism.

MFL: Children will continue to develop their French vocabulary and conversational French including exploring the French resistance.
