The Cedar Grove Area Improvements project consists of upgrading and replacing about 2 miles of existing 138 kV transmission line. The existing wooden structures will be replaced with single-pole steel structures to be operated at the same voltage. Minor upgrades will be made at the Linwood and South Shreveport substations as well as part of this initiative.

Southwest Power Pool, the regionaltransmission organization, identified theneed for these upgrades to bring thesystem up to current standards and toaddress local electricity supplyconcerns. SPP operates under federalmandate to ensure reliable supplies ofpower and adequate transmissioninfrastructure. Most of the existingsystem was built in the early 1950s. Theimproved facilities will bring the systemup-to-date and ensure reliable electricservice.

Crews will begin construction in early 2018. The company expects to complete construction by mid-2018.

The line rebuild extends from theLinwood Substation off of Linwood Avenue and travels south, paralleling Linwood Avenue, until it reaches the South Shreveport Substation located just south of the Inner Loop Expressway.

CEDAR GROVEAREA IMPROVEMENTS138KV TRANSMISSION LINE PROJECT

Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) plans to rebuild approximately 2 miles of existing transmission line in the Cedar Grove area of Shreveport. Upgrades to the existing 138-kilovolt (kV) system will benefit the area by providing more reliable electric service for growth and economic development. The company expects to invest nearly $5 million on this project.

SWEPCO is committed to providing the electricity that customers need. To that end, the company is upgrading the aging electric backbone of the region with a $46 million reliability transmission program called “Powering Up Shreveport – Bossier City.” One of the program’s five major electric transmission improvement projects is Cedar Grove Area Improvements.
