Station is host for On the Table Greater Akron eventWesternReservePublicMediaservedasahostforOntheTableGreaterAkron,organizedbyAkronCommunityFoundation,onOct.3atPaneraBreadinCuyahogaFalls.StationemployeeswhoservedasdiscussionfacilitatorswereTrinaCutter,ElisaBurchett,MarybethGibbons,JeffGoodandGaryManke.

ThepurposeoftheeventwastodiscussmeaningfulideastostrengthenthegreaterAkroncommunity.Someofthetopicscoveredevent-wideincludedeconomicdevelopmentneeds,theopioidepidemicandassuringthatallcommunitymembershaveavoice.

Ready to Learn training beginsOhioReadytoLearntrainingwillbegininDecemberforfamilychild-careproviders.ThistraininghelpsfacilitiesobtainStepUptoQualitystatus.TheprojectisfundedthroughOhioEducationalTelevisionStationsbyagrantfromOhioJobsandFamilyServices.PamOviatt,WesternReservePublicMediaearlylearningconsultant,isfacilitator.

Google training offered at Harrison HillsEducationalServicesstaffmembersJeffGoodandLaurieGreenconductedon-sitetrainingforover50teachersatHarrisonHillsCityschoolsinCadizinAugust.ThetrainingfocusedonbasicandadvancedGoogleapplications.

Financial literacy sessions held TheSmartPathFinancialLiteracytrainingplatformforgrades1-6wasdevelopedbytheEconomicsCenterofUniversityofCincinnati.IncollaborationwithUC,WesternReservePBSrecentlyconductedtwotrainingsessionsfor20teachers.AsecondsessionwillbeofferedinDecember.

Teacher training updateSincethebeginningoftheschoolyear,theEducationalServicesstaffhasdelivered28eventsto1,093educators.Printnewslettersweremailedto720educatorsinAugust,whilefiveelectronicnewslettershavebeendeliveredsincethebeginningofschoolto26,465educatorsacrossOhio.Makerspace event held

OnOct.10,EducationalServicessponsoredaMakerspaceExploritoriumeventthatfocusedontechnologiesforthemakerclassroom,includingOzobots,Scribbler3Dpens,Scratch,LegoRobotics,EdisonRobotsandMakeyMakey.

New board member announced

WesternReservePublicMediawelcomesDavidE.Dixtoitsboardofdirectors.HisappointmentfillsoneofKentStateUniversity’sthreecommunityrepresentativepositions.

DixisvicepresidentofDix1898,aradioanddigitalmediacompanythatownsMockWoodworking.HeisretiredaspublisherofRecordPublishing,LLC,after49years.

Mr.Dixisinvolvedinhiscommunity,currentlyservingascampaignchairman

ofPortageCountyUnitedWay;amemberoftheboardofdirectorsandpresidentemeritusofLeadershipPortageCounty;amemberandformerpresidentofKentRotary;anddirectorof

theboardforAmericanCollegeFoundation,whichworkswithAmericanCollegeinMadurai,India.

HispastappointmentsincludeboardpositionsatUHPortageandtheformerRobinsonMemorialHospitalfrom1994-2016;presidentoftheOhioNewspaperAssociationfrom2012-2014;andtrusteeofKentStateUniversityfrom1976-1985.

Dixearnedabachelor’sdegreeinhistoryfromOberlinCollegein1963.HethenattendedSyracuseUniversity,whereheearnedamaster’sdegreeinjournalismandpublicrelationsin1968.In1972,hereceivedhisjurisdoctordegreefromTheUniversityofAkron.HewasadmittedtotheOhioBarAssociationin1973.
