Usability Testing We created 9 tasks to test the new version of the website from mobile devices. Each test participant had 3 tasks (10 participants: 8 undergrad, 1 grad student, 1 community user)
USER TEST 1:
Task 1: Find LexisNexis research Database
Task 2: Request a book from another library
Task 3: Find Floor Maps
USER TEST 2:
Task 1: Borrow a Laptop
Task 2: Find out how to use citations
Task 3: Find out circulation periods
USER TEST 3:
Task 1: Find newspaper articles
Task 2: Reserve a study room
Task 3: Find out how to avoid plagiarism
Results & Feedback Results:
● Tasks that did poorly: renting a laptop, locating a research engine, finding newspaper articles
● Tasks that did well: Requesting books from other libraries, finding floor maps, circulation periods and reserving study rooms
Feedback:
❖ Most users said they like the new drop down menu and the sub-menu’s within them
❖ One user said they like that the ASK US
is on the front page, and easy to access ❖ Another user said they like that the
SEARCH bar is right there if they need it
Debrief● The Find menu has been doing poorly in user testing
since Research, Write and Publish has been added to the menu. ○ This is apparent in Treejack results as well. ○ As a result, the menu is now titled as Find Materials.
● Borrow and Request menu now includes Borrow Technology to test and see if this will change the poor results for the renting a laptop scenario.
● On mobile, the menu stays expanded when you go back, which was a point of confusion. Will change this.
