especting all possible choices you
might have made, we are here tooer you something new, a new
concept of recent origin, its essenceprimeval the concept of the village.
For where can we take the best rest fromthe city but in what is totally opposite tothe city?
Rrhythm of nature, of the changes ofseasons, the transformation of days into
nights, the rhythm of heartbeats the oneand true natural order of things.
Leaning upon the river banks, lined-up inthe endless plain, scattered upon moun-tain valleys and peaks, robed in forest,
plum orchards and vineyards, the villagesof Serbia exude tranquility.Immersed in nature in the first instants of
light intoxication we feel we need not doanything. Only observe. Whatever
surrounds us will exert curative eects.

Traditionally a grain of salt and abite of cake bread are a part of it, and aspring-water, just to wash o the roaddust; if, however, you decide to experi-ment, you can have a choice of home-madebrandy, double-stilled brandy, brandieswith plant aromas added, wine from thebarrel or fruit-juice extractedfrom the fruits picked up in theneighboring orchards. Some hosts will welcome youwith the fruit preserve made ofdierent fruits, following thetradition of a particular region,

SOUNDS
Rooster is one of the mostfrequently used symbols of the village.Frankly, he is impossible to exclude so, whatyou are left with is to wake up slowly andstart toward the morning. In the village you
will hear the creaking of the sweep, mostoften in Vojvodina; all over Serbia this is thecreaking of the well winch while the ropeand the tin bucket on its end descend into

for heat or for preparing a meal are only
symphonies of the crickets, the frogs fromthe neighboring pond or stream are usuallyevening performances.
TASTES
It is a known fact that many village house-holds used to live their quite ordinary livesbuying from the shops only their share of
salt, coee and sugar. In other words, everything else they needed they producedthemselves, as they are doing now in theso-called cottage industry. From meal tomeal, the cuisines dier from region toregion, from tradition to tradition.
What they have in common aresound home-made ingredients, unhurried preparation of themeals and enchanting tastes.
cake bread from umadija, and cracklingsand fritters, cheese pies, corn breads, pumpkin pies, beans and stued dried
peppers, wedding-style sauerkrauts, roastsand grills, prosciutto and kajmak, cottageand fatty cheeses, are the tastes of thevillages of Serbia. Traditional recipes bring toyour dinner table the food that is pure art, oered with the seasoning one can never andnowhere buy the love that the hostessesprepare their dishes with.
ART
Village is the most direct and the mostreliable guardian of tradition. What charac-terizes the Serb people and other peoplesliving in Serbia, in the form of character andart is originally kept in the village becausethe village is our point of origin.

Most often self-taught, the art of thevillage is amazing. Like a painting,
woodcutting, like music, like a drawing,
a dance, embroidery, weave, almostforgotten craft, that art gladdens one,
relieves and renews. It is a fireworks colors
and sounds, but dance, first of all. A dream
fosters legends, traditions, myths, beliefs.
However, there is a special art which gives
of living. Only a piece of the art is enough
to feed our souls, separate what is impor-tant from what is not, to established the
desired tranquility and oer the balance to
our city lives.Should one accept this challenge?

MOKRA GORA
Located among the three mountains:
Zlatibor, Tara and argan, and the three
rivers: Beli Rzav, Crni Rzav and Kameina,
Mokra Gora has always been a gate the
peoples went through. It connected Serbia
and Bosnia. It abounds in medicinal waters,
like the wells of Bela Voda, esma, Dulova
Voda, Radovanova Voda or the Gliova Voda.
In a place called Jejinjak , there grows a giant
fir tree, with the largest tree trunk in Serbia.
It is 50.5 meters tall and the diameter of its
trunk is 1.7 meters. On one of the slopes of
Mokra Gora an unusual ethno-village issituated, known as Meavnik, or Drvengrad,
a creative world of our famous director, Emir
bee-keeping and the production of tar. Mokra
Gora is one of the few villages where the craft
of tar making has been preserved.
TRI
It is certain that the village of Tri, in the
vicinity of Loznica, would not have become
so famous if the founder of the alphabet of
the Serbian language, Vuk Stefanjovi
Karadi, had not been born there. "I was
born in Serbia, and I grew up in Serbia and
it is for this reason that I believe there is no
country more beautiful then Serbia." wroteVuk. And Tri, in its turn, justifies it and,
even today, preserves the spirit of the
hospitality of western Serbia and the Vuk's
heritage.
THE WHITE ANGEL

famous British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans.
vicinity of Prijepolje, upstream from where Mileevka
river empties its waters into the Lim river. It is the
seat of the diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church of
the same name. It is known all over the world by two
things: first, the fresco of the White Angel, and
second, by the fact that it was a place where for 358
years the relics were kept of St. Sava, the first Serb
saint, archbishop and educationalist, until they were
incinerated at the Vraar plateau in Belgrade.
TARA
Among more than a thousand species ofplants at the Tara National Park, the
Pani spruce, an exceptionally rare
species, has a special place. Of the varied
fauna on Tara, the brown bear stands
out as this is his only larger natural
habitat, but also chamois and the
endemic species of Pani grasshopper.
approximately 130 species of birds.
Some forty species of fish live in the park
waters. Tara National Park is one of the
five national parks in Serbia.

In the first decade of the first century the Romans chose an area not
far from where the Mlava river empties into the Danube to build a
