Ireadrecentlythatconspiracytheoriesflourishwhenthereisalossoftrust.Whenpeoplelosetrustinthegovernment,whenpeoplelosetrustininsMtuMons,whenpeoplelosetrustineverythingtheyusedtotrustin;theystartbelievingwildlymadeupstoriesthatcounterthetruth.IrememberasachildtheconspiracytheorythattheApollomoonlandingwasahoaxtoconvincetheworldthatAmericacoulddotheimpossible.I'veheardthat9-11wasaplotconceivedbytheAmericangovernmenttosowanM-Islamicfears.Mostrecently—infactIreaditinthepaperjustthisweek—oneAmericanclaimingthattheCovid-19pandemicisnotreal,itisaliberalmadeupstorytomakethepresidentlookbad.

Surprisingly,well-informedandeducatedpeoplebelievethesestories.Whenyoulosebeliefinwhatyouthoughtheldthingstogether,youstartbelievinganythingyoureadonyoursocialmediafeed.Andweallsuffer.

IthinkmostpeoplebelievethatCovid-19isreal,butmanychoosenottobelievetherecommendedguidelinestomaskuptocontrolthespread.Andtheresult?ThecurveofinfecMonsisrisingtowherethiscountrywasbackinearlyApril.

ThetruthsomeMmesisnoteasytoaccept,butasIpreachedlastweek,thetruthtriumphs.JesussaysinJohn8,‘Youwillknowthetruthandthetruthwillsetyoufree.’InJohn14Jesustellsusthatheisthetruth.‘Iamtheway,thetruth,andthelife;noonecomestotheFatherbutbyme.’

John'sgospelisacalltotrustinJesus.ThelastverseofthetradiMonalendingtothegospelsays:‘Butthesearewri_ensothatyoumaycometobelievethatJesusistheMessiah,theSonofGod,andthatthroughbelievingyoumayhavelifeinhisname.’Thekeywordsherearebelieveandlife.Throughbelieving,ortrusMng,inJesus;youhavelifeinhisname.

Justasourchurchneverclosed,Thrivent’sworkconMnuedduringthepandemic,andbothAcMonTeamprojectsarenowcompleted.AsaresultofmanyfinancialdonaMonsaswellastheMmeandtalentofPrinceofPeacememberfamilieswhosplituptheworkwhilesocialdistancing,thereisanew7’x7’shedbythePeaceGarden(foundaMonpainted,rampadded,bordercompletedandalreadyputtogooduseoverthepastmonth);andthepropertyenhancementsfortheHouseNextDoorhavearrived.

AmerpayingfortheshedkitandbuildingmaterialsforthefoundaMonfortheshed,therestofthedonaMonswereusedtoenhanceourpropertyandaddflexibilityforthoseusingouroutdoorspace.Asin-personeventsstartupagain,retreatsandmeeMngscannowbeheldoutsideunderanewEZ-Up12’x12’bluecanopyshadingfourtanconverMbleresinbenches,usedasisoraswriMngtablesorsetupinpairsastwopicnictablesdependingonthenatureofthegathering.Twoofthetanbenchesarecurrentlysituatedbehindthegarage(combinedasapicnictable)whiletwoothersaresetupasparkbenchesnearthelabyrinthfornow.Havetroublesisngwithoutaback?Thesebenchescaneasilybemovedtotheouteredgesoftheoutdoorworshipspaceforthoseneedingsomesupportwhenthatareaisinuse.Planaheadandthecanopywillbesetuptoaddcomfortforretreats,meeMngs,ordisplays.

Two Thrivent Action Projects Completed

ConsideringthecircumstancesunderwhichweweremeeMng,Rev.VaughnexpressedherfrustraMonandexhausMonbecauseintheKernerReport,whichformerPresidentJohnsonhadcommissioned52yearsago,strongrecommendaMonsweremadeamerracialunrest,butthegovernmentdidnottomakeanyofthosechanges,whichcouldhavepreventedthepolicebrutalityandothersystemicissuessMllexisMngin2020.Shewasimpressedtoseewehadnotjustorganizedbutrecognizedourowncomplicityandalsoacted(inprayer,inworship,withourpublicstatement,outreachtootherlocalorganizaMons,educaMoneffortsincludingthe21DayChallenge),sayingthatveryfewELCAcongregaMons(we’reoneofthreesheknew)havesuchcommi_ees.Assheledourdiscussion,respondedtoourquesMons,andsharedresources,wesharedourconfusionandthestrugglesofourcommi_eeandPrinceofPeacemembersinaccepMngandaddressingtheracisminourchurch.Rev.Vaughnremindedusthatadmisngtoracisminourchurchandourlivescancauseshock,grieving,andanger.Discussionsaboutracismareprobablysomeofthemostdifficult,soeducaMngourselvesandourmemberstohelpusallthroughthoseemoMonstakesMmeandunderstanding.
