ADORATION ADORACIÓN
Thursday / Jueves 9AM to 6PM
Merry Christmas! Today we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, the last day of Christmas when the Magi from the East came to honor the newborn King. Each of the Magi brought a gift of love and treasure. It was an early act of stewardship which we still notice today in their generosity to a child unknown yet proclaimed by so many. It is the tradi-tion in many families and in our Christian tradition that today
is a day of gift giving and the sharing of our time, talent and treasure with God.
It is also a time to enter once more into the struggle. The first sentence in Resisting Happiness is “The alarm clock goes off. It’s time to get out of bed. This is your first decision of the day. Will you get out of bed or hit the snooze button? You press the snooze button and roll over.” (p 1) Have we picked up the book and set it down without reading? Have we begun and then set it aside thinking we are too busy? If you have, don’t wor-ry you are in good company because many of us have done exactly these things. (Continued page 2...)
Feliz Navidad!

THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD The word 'Epiphany' comes from Greek and means 'manifestation'. Epiphany, or the 12th day of Christmas, falls on January 6 and marks the last day of the Christmas season. The Twelfth Night (Epiphany) also marks a visit to the baby Jesus by The Magi, (the three Kings, or Wise Men). According to the Gospel of Matthew, the three kings found baby Jesus by following a star across the de-sert to Bethlehem. The three kings: Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar, followed the star to meet the baby Jesus, and offer Him sym-bolic gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Across the world, the day's festivities vary. In the Spanish speaking world Epiphany is known as Dia de los Reyes (Three Kings' Day) In Mexico, for instance, families gather to taste the Rosca de Reyes (Kings' bread) where a Jesus figurine is hidden in the bread. Whoever finds the small baby Jesus hidden inside their slice of the Rosca de Reyes throws a party on Candlemas, February 2nd. In some European and Latin-American countries, children leave their shoes out the night before to be filled with gifts, while others leave straw for the three Kings' horses. The Catholic dioceses in the US mark the Epiphany feast on the Sunday after January 6.
