Changing SeasonsLast month I submitted an article thataddressed many ways we can go forwardfor the next phase of St. Johns growth anddevelopment, as we worship God together

in Christian Community. We are now in the Season of Pentecostwhen the Holy Spirit was breathed into thedisciples and they went out to share it withothers. We, likewise, who have receivedthe Holy Spirit are also charged to go outand share the Good News with others. As Children of God we are responsible tospread the Good News and bring others toChrist. What better way to exercise thatChristian responsibility than to share our

beautiful St. Johns, the Body of Christ, with others.

July 4 th at St. JohnsAs we learned from the historical talksduring our Lenten programs, our historyand that of Sealys Methodist Churchhave been entwined in several ways. Inthe early 1900s when St. Johns churchbuilding was destroyed, the Methodistsopened their building to us to use forworship for four years. More recenthistory, of about 20 years ago, foundthe two churches joining for childrensSunday School classes. This wasrepeated three years ago with theaddition of the Adult Class, all of whichwere taught at the Methodist Church.

The past two years members of theMethodist Church have joined St. Johnsfor the Maundy Thursday services, andseveral also came to our LentenEvensong services. On Sunday, July 4, St. Johns will honorthe First United Methodist Church forextending their hand of Christianfriendship to their Episcopal brethrenthroughout the years. We will join withthem for the 10:00am worship service, and following the service we will treatthem (and ourselves!) to a picnic of hotdogs, ice cream and watermelon on ourvacant lot. The Worship service willfeature a professional singer in aconcert of patriotic music. It will alsofeature Methodist Pastor John Tyler andSt. Johns Lay Intern Eric LeBrocq. Dressfor the service and the picnic will becasual.

We need to share our Christian Communitywith them. We cannot do that if we dontinvite them to worship with us. Make it easyfor them: Pick them up, bring them to the

service; introduce them to our wonderfulcongregation; share our wonderful food andcoffee; and above all, help them experiencethe Holy Spirit that exists in our members.Introduce them by name; tell us about them;make them feel at home; find out their familyand church interests and needs. Make themimmediately feel a part of this Body of Christ. If you see someone you dont know, walk up,introduce yourself and get to know them.Introduce them to others. Express your thanksthat they came to be with us. Invite them

back.Always remember, we are not a MadisonAvenue Public Relations Group hawking a

product to the consumer marketOr, AreWe?We are sharing the Holy Spirit with others so

they can experience and know God as it has been done for 125 years here at St. JohnsEpiscopal Church, Sealy, Texas.Alleluia, AlleluiaLeB
