This past June, Pope Francis
released his long awaited
encyclical on the environment
called Laudato Si (On Care
for Our Common Home). In
this encyclical, addressed to
“every person living on this
planet”, Pope Francis appeals
for an inclusive dialogue
about how we are shaping the
future of our planet. He calls
the Church and the world to
acknowledge the urgency of
our environmental challenges
and to join him in embarking
on a new path. (USCCB)
To read the encyclical in full,
simply Google On Care for
Our Common Home, or visit
the US Catholic Bishops website
(usccb.org). In truth, I have
read very little of it. But as I
read more, I hope that we can
dialogue about what Francis
is inviting us to. Below are
the first two paragraphs and
one can see how he is setting
the foundation for his thesis.
It is followed by the prayer
with which Francis concludes
the encyclical. No matter our
outlook on the cause of our
current situation, I’m certain
we can meet in that prayer on
common ground. I hope this
small taste gives you a desire
to seek out more of what
Pope Francis is sharing with
us.
“Praise be to you, my Lord”. In
the words of this beautiful
canticle, Saint Francis of Assisi
reminds us that our common
home is like a sister with
whom we share our life and a
beautiful mother who opens
her arms to embrace us.
“Praise be to you, my Lord,
through our Sister, Mother
Earth, who sustains and governs
us, and who produces various
fruit with coloured flowers
and herbs”.
This sister now cries out to us
because of the harm we have
inflicted on her by our irre-
sponsible use and abuse of
the goods with which God has
endowed her. We have come
to see ourselves as her lords
and masters, entitled to plunder
her at will. The violence present
in our hearts, wounded by
sin, is also reflected in the
symptoms of sickness evident
in the soil, in the water, in the
air and in all forms of life.
This is why the earth herself,
burdened and laid waste, is
among the most abandoned
and maltreated of our poor;
she “groans in travail”
Rom 8:22). We have forgotten
that we ourselves are dust of
the earth (cf. Gen2:7); our
very bodies are made up of
her elements, we breathe her
air and we receive life and
refreshment from her waters.
A prayer for our earth
All-powerful God, you are
present in the whole universe
and in the smallest of your
creatures. You embrace with
your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power
of your love, that we may
protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace that we may
live as brothers and sisters,
harming no one.
O God of the poor, help us to
rescue the abandoned and
forgotten of this earth, so
precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world
and not prey on it, that we
may sow beauty, not pollution
and destruction.
Touch the hearts of those
who look only for gain at the
expense of the poor and the
earth.
Teach us to discover the worth
of each thing, to be filled with
awe and contemplation, to
recognize that we are profoundly
united with every creature as
we journey towards your infinite
light.
We thank you for being with
us each day. Encourage us,
we pray, in our struggle for
justice, love and peace.

Saturday Lv 25:1, 8-17/Mt 14:1-12
Weekend Ex 16:2-4, 12-15/Eph 4:17, 20-24/Jn 6:24-35
Join us next week as our readings’ focus is: “God gives us the strength to follow him.” When the Israelites escaped Egypt and sought a new life, God gave them quail in the evening and manna in the mornings to they could be strong for their journey across the desert. Similarly, Jesus gives us the gift of himself in the Eucharist so that we might have the strength and grace needed to persevere as we walk our pilgrim journey of faith on earth.
Help Support our Seminarians
This year marks the ten year anni-versary of the annual Seminarian Collection: Hope for the Future, Help them Today. In just one decade, we have seen 20 priests ordained who now serve the church. This collection makes an impact!
You can help our seminarians by supporting their calling through the Seminarian Collection which will arrive in your mailbox this week. Your donation provides tuition, room and board, insurance, a small stipend for our seminarians and support of the Office of Voca-tions which invites disciples to consider the priesthood. The total annual cost is nearly $1,000,000.
Next weekend our Diocese will kick off this annual collection. Each year, we hope to be even more generous. There is Hope for the Future. Let us Help them Today. To make your gift today, visit www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give.
Special RCIA Invitation
We will be starting a fall session for anyone who has considered becoming a member of the Catholic faith. If you are the spouse of a Catholic, friend, relative, neighbor, or know someone who has questioned you about the Catholic faith, please contact Deacon Pat Knier through any of the parish offices or call 920-946-2778 to have any questions about the RCIA program answered.
Salvatorian Mission Warehouse Needs You:
The new director of the Salvatorian Mission Warehouse is seeking help of someone willing to volunteer two or three days per week for office and secretarial work. If you are retired or have the free time and knowledge to give of yourself to this vital mission, please call Dave Holton at 898-5898.
Marriage 911
Don’t miss out on the next program for married couples that feel bored, frustrated, or angry in their marriage. Some experience coldness and simply shut down. Others experience con-flict and arguments in their relation-ship. Most don’t know how to change the situation or even com-municate with their spouse about it. Retrouvaille has helped 10’s of 1000’s of couples experiencing mari-tal difficulty at all levels including disillusionment and deep misery. For confidential information about or to register for the upcoming weekend at St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere August 14-16 call 800-470-2230 or visit www.retrouvaille.org. Adult Faith Formation & Catechetical Certification Classes
Want to learn more about your faith? Area Adult Faith Formation & Catechetical Certification Classes will be held in Reedsville this year. Each class offered consists of 10 total hours held on Saturday mornings September 19, October 10, and November 7. Classes offered are Bible, Creed, Morality, Prayer & Spirituality, Sacraments & Liturgy and Methods A. Classes are open to any adult,
especially individuals who are considering being catechists. For more information and a brochure, contact any parish office. Deadline to register is September 9.
Good news on our Honduras Project!
The medical clinic in Toncontin, Honduras has passed the one year mark of operations. To insure that the clinic is able to continue in the future, we must solidify our support with our contact that helps us clear our containers through customs in the port city of Puerto Cortes, Raul Roque. Roque has helped us and many other projects in the past, but suffered greatly in the last year of turmoil in Honduras.
We are sending a container in mid-September full of medical supplies as well as funds to Roque, who will distribute them to the local hospitals. We also wish to send school supplies, which are always desperately needed. An upcoming bulletin insert will describe the entire project further, but we ask all of you for immediate help with the school and medical supplies.

Stewardship Corner with Pope Francis One important challenge is to show that the solution will never be found in fleeing from a personal and committed relationship with God which at the same time commits us to serving others. (Pope Francis: The Joy of the Gospel #196)
Joy is inseparable from our relationship with God. If I were to rate myself on a scale of 1-10, where would I place myself?
Thank you!
Thanks to Mike Herzog, who submitted his name once again to be our Trustee Treasurer for the next two years. Mike brings a lot of gifts to the position and we are blessed to have him.
Keep in Prayer
Please keep in prayer Jake Hersey and Katie Klauck, who will be united in Holy Matrimony this coming Saturday, August 1. May God continue to ignite and bless their love.
Baptisms
Through the waters of baptism we welcome Reese May, daughter of Nicole (Feldmann) & Christopher Dillon, into the Catholic Faith community with great joy this weekend. Welcome to the family of God Reese!
Rest in Peace
We pray for Riek Luykx and Edward Staub who were called home to the Lord. May God grant them eternal rest. Please remember their families and all families who have recently lost a loved one in your prayers. May God bring them peace and comfort.
Altar Server Training
We will have altar server training for anyone interested in serving for week-end Masses. Children (those who have finished 4th grade), or any adults who wish to serve with their children. It is a great way to serve God and assist Father at Mass. Training will be from 6:00 – 7:00 pm on August 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31.
It’s Coming!
The Kiel Picnic is almost here. Sign up sheets are on the back table in church for you to volunteer to help at the stand. Shifts are just 2 1/2 hours each. (Starting Monday, August 3 the sign-up sheets will be in the rectory office.) Students are invited to volunteer, but must be at least 13. Because we don’t always have correct phone numbers for families, our callers will NOT be contacting you, but watch for a postcard this week with details in the mail
instead. If for some reason you don’t get a postcard and would like to bring a pie or torte, feel free to bring it
to the stand at any time. Anyone can make a pie/torte for our pie stand, not just the ladies from our parish!
Surnames beginning with the letter ’A’ are asked to bring their pie/torte at 6 pm on Thursday. Surnames beginning with the letter ’B-E’ can bring them at 5 pm on Friday; ’F-L’ at 10:30 am on Saturday; and ’M-Z’ are asked to bring them at 11 am on Sunday. If those times don’t work for you, feel free to bring your pies any of those four days. If you have any questions, please contact Helen Brost (693.3366).
See you there to sample the delicious selection of pies and tortes!
Joe McCarey Benefit
A benefit is taking place this Sunday, July 26 for Joe McCarey of MC’s Pub & Grill starting at 10:30 am. The benefit is to help with Joe’s medical expenses after doctors found and are treating 2 brain aneurysms in March.
During the benefit, 4th Street will be closed from Fremont Street to the alley. This may affect traffic behind church that day, so please be patient and plan accordingly.
All are welcome to show your support and stop in for lunch/dinner and enter for a chance to win some of the many raffles prizes. Please keep Joe and his family in your prayers.
