Date: December 8th, 2016Time: 10-12Place: B497 Many modern theories about the meaning andorigin of ancient Greek sacrifice were actuallyalready developed in the late 19th century. In thisopen lecture, Professor Jan Bremmer proceeds fromthis general observation in order to further scrutinizethe idea that sacrificial killing developed from thehunt. Special attention will be paid to sacrificialpractices in the last centuries of the Roman Empire.   

About the lecturerJan Bremmer was Chair of Religious Studies at theUniversity of Groningen between 1990-2009.
