What will you do on the day of your appointed festivals, on the feast days of the Lord?
Hosea 9:5
September means the end of summer, and yes, kids are
back in school and grown-ups are back at work! September marks
the return of vacationers to their city. Yet the atmosphere is not
grim at all. Summer lingers while fall appears, and the weather is
mild. It is the perfect time for residents to enjoy the metropolis.
With tourists gone and the genuine spirit of Atlanta in the air, you
can experience the city and be reminded of what makes this region
"peachy keen."
Walk, run or bike - September invites everyone to enjoy the
beauty of the outdoors. There will be festivals and street markets
to entice those who need a little something added to their
outdoorsy stroll. There are so many cool things happening this
month such as the AJC Decatur Book Festival, Dragon Con, Taste of
Soul, Music Midtown, Cheese Fest Atlanta, Atlanta Streets Alive, and
Sweet Auburn Music Fest to name a few. There is something to do
outside for everyone. Make sure you get outside and do some
exploring!
While you're exploring and meeting new people, share a
word with someone about the goodness of the Lord and what being
a disciple of Christ means to you, what Christ has done for you,
even why you feel compelled to serve in kingdom building. Invite
someone to come and worship with you. Really get to know some
people who you do not normally interact with. It can be difficult
moving out of your comfort zone, don't despair. Listen for words of
wisdom that will be shared on evangelism and outreach. In fact,
plan to join our Evangelism and Care & Counseling teams as we go
into the community to meet new people and build new
relationships.
September is a time to remember, so remember to be
festive! What will you do during this season of festivals?
Yours in Christ Jesus, Rev. Tanya Y. Pittman

RETREAT
The UMW Retreat is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, September 21 and 22 at St. Timothy with the theme “Living in a Covenant Community.” We will start Friday evening learning a few dance steps with a professional dancer, Coby Richardson whom some of you may remember from a retreat a few years ago.
Rebecca Reeves will facilitate our study which will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday with devotions and coffee in the Pavilion at the Ball Field. We will conclude about 4 p.m. that afternoon with communion but not before having a time of crafts and lots of singing. Registrations will be available during August; cost is $50 and limited scholarships will be available (see Reverend Pittman).
There are many opportunities to help before the day of the BBQ, October 27, and on the day of the BBQ. Please look for the sign-up table by the Fellowship Hall and sign-up to do your part. Thanks, Bobby and Bobby
Please join us on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 8 am in the Dining Room for our monthly breakfast.
FRIDAY, September 21 at 11:30 am
For this month, in support of the school we will decorate the tables with school supplies that will be given to them following the meeting. Please bring supplies and "the usual" as you are able: $3.00 for our church project, a large covered dish to share, donations for the Stone Mountain Food Pantry, and especially, PLEASE BRING A FRIEND!!!!
We always need help setting up and cleaning up. So if you can, please come by on Thursday, September 20 at 2 pm to help set up, or stay late just a few minutes on Friday to help clean up.
We will gather at 11:30, eat lunch at noon and have our program shortly after. This month the St. Timothy School will join us as some of the students lead us in singing and celebration. See you then!
