Is a Revolutionary New Refractory Anchoring System

This 2-piece system is comprised of the:

ROTALOCK

ROTALOCK BASE and the

ROTALOCK V-ANCHOR

ROTALOCK BASE

ROTALOCK V-ANCHOR

Page 3: TFL Rotalock Anchor Presentation

Step 1: The ROTALOCK Base is welded to the vessel

Step 2: The ROTALOCK V-anchor is fed into the base

Step 3: The V-Anchor is turned sideways and centered

Step 4: The ROTALOCK V-anchor is turned up and locked into position

by hand

• The Rotalock V-anchor is held in position by a precise friction fit.

• No tack-welding of the anchor is required.

Why ROTALOCK ?

The ROTALOCK System offers these advantages:

Since the V-anchor is separate from the ROTALOCK base, the anchor allows for slight movement in the refractory lining, while still holding the lining securely to the steel shell. This reduces stress and cracking within the refractory lining. A closely-held interference fit holds the V-anchor firmly in position until the refractory material has been placed.

For dual-component linings, the ROTALOCK design allows for the hotface V-anchor to be installed after the backup lining is placed, keeping the hotface anchors clean and undamaged.

The ROTALOCK base can be re-used on future repairs. Only the V-anchors need to be replaced. Since these are replaced by hand, the time, manpower and expense of re-welding a completely new anchor to the shell can be virtually eliminated.

For multi-component linings, anchors for the backup lining are included as part of the ROTALOCK base. This eliminates the need for additional, independent backup lining anchors to be welded on the steel shell.

Many times, perfectly good backup linings are removed during hotface lining repairs, simply to replace the hotface anchors. With the ROTALOCK anchor base extending in front of the backup lining, and no welding required to replace the V-anchor, the backup lining can now be salvaged, resulting in a tremendous savings on future repair jobs.

When work activities are required in an area where anchors have already been installed, the ROTALOCK system offers a tremendous safety benefit. Since the V-anchors can be left off until just before the hotface lining is installed, workers are not exposed to a dangerous array of anchor legs standing out from the vessel shell during earlier phases of the job.

On pre-fabricated vessels and ducts, only the ROTALOCK anchor bases need to be welded during fabrication. The V-anchors can then be installed at a later time. This minimizes damage to the V-anchors, and provides for easier handling and shipping of fabricated pieces.

All ROTALOCK anchor bases and V-anchors include plastic caps at the ends, which burn away upon heat-up, leaving a void in the refractory for the anchor to expand without impacting the refractory and inducing stresses in the lining.

In some applications, the two-piece ROTALOCK system allows for carbon steel to be used for the anchor base, instead of stainless steel or other expensive alloys, further reducing anchor costs.
