PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Changes to Restrictions
New guidelines have been provided to schools
with comprehensive advice of what can take place
in schools as restrictions are eased. It is important
you are familiar with these and remember the
rules for schools are specific to the school
circumstances and sometimes different to those as
general public advice.
From Monday 15th June, the following will be
permitted:
• All curricular or extra-curricular programs or
services delivered by Department of Education
staff can recommence
• Library borrowing, only when outstanding books
have been returned
• Choirs and performing arts at school within
school only, and with safety protocols
• Some activities which involve students visiting
other schools
• Most community use activities that run in the hall
out of school hours.
• School assemblies (limited to 15 minutes and no
external visitors)
• Choirs and performing arts at school, with safety
protocols in place
• Incursions and external providers can provide
activities that support delivery of curriculum
(e.g. music tutors, sport skills programs, science
demonstrations)
All going well we are expecting from Term 3,
schools will be able to resume:
• All school sport and activities including
competition aligned with current health advice
• Inter-school student events and competitions
• Volunteers for Breakfast Club, Kids Hope
mentoring and Canteen
A limited number of activities remain under
consideration and for now these events must
remain on hold, these include school camps or
extended excursions. We are hoping by Term 4
these will go ahead.
School students do not need to follow strict adult
physical distancing guidelines but continue to
follow good hygiene practices like:
• regularly washing hands and using hand
sanitisers upon entry to school and rooms
• avoiding sharing equipment or resources
• coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or using a
tissue which should be discarded immediately
• drinking from water bottles rather than using the
bubblers.
School Attendance
All students should be at school unless they have a
medical certificate which states that they are unable
to return to school due to an ongoing medical
condition and the expected timeframe or they are
currently unwell. There is no provision for ‘learning
at home’.
School site usage
School-based activities can start to recommence as
long as the following measures are observed:
• all visitors and external to school providers must
adhere to relevant hygiene, distancing and safety
protocols and completing relevant forms
• principals may continue to restrict, limit or prohibit
activities if they are seen as contrary to the current
health advice
• non-essential adults are still not permitted on
school grounds or at school events – this
includes parents/carers - unless specifically invited
or approved by the Principal.
Pick up and drop off will still remain at front gate.
Reports
Teachers have been hard at work finalising any in
class assessments. These add to the student work
samples and observations to inform of student
progress at school and during time learning from
home this semester. These results will help form
your child’s Semester One Report which will be in a
modified format.
Reports will be sent home with students on Friday
26th June.
Colder Weather
The cooler winter weather has arrived, and most
students are coming dressed to cope with the cold
but there are a few still arriving at school without
jumpers or jackets. It is important that students have
their warmer clothes with them as they may require
them throughout the day. If you require additional
jumpers there are supplies in the clothing pool.
Our lost property is forever growing and any items
with names on them get sent to the student. Please
make sure that your child's jumpers, jackets and
hats are labelled with their name so they can be
returned.
CANTEEN CLOSED until
further notice.
BREAKFAST CLUB
CLOSED until further
notice.
Uniform Pool The uniform pool is in urgent need
of boys and girls clothing.
Especially sizes 4, 6 and 8.
Donations of uniform items can
be left at the office.
Merit Awards
Congratulations to the children who were recognised
with a Merit Award on Friday for making an extra effort
in the past week and achieving success at school.
While we are not able to hold Gathering’s, we will be
presenting Merit Awards on Friday mornings to our high
achieving students.
K – Melody and Dion
1/2 – Brielle and Sophie
3/4 – Kayalanna and Kiarli
5/6 – Jaylee and Darnell
Transition
At this point we are expecting our Transition class to
commence next term each Thursday, from 23rd July. If
you know of any family interested or a child eligible to
attend, please encourage them to contact the school
for more details.
Star Awards
“You’re a Star Award” certificates were presented this
morning to students who have been using the You Can
Do It keys to success and demonstrating persistence,
resilience, organisation, getting along and confidence.
Congratulations to our recipients: Xayarna, Lincoln,
Declan and Hayden.
These ‘keys’ are instant rewards given daily to encour-
age use of the ‘5 keys to success’- persistence, resili-
ence, organisation, getting along and confidence.
While the Star Room is temporarily non-operational, the
children receiving Star Awards get priority to use our
mini golf course each day.

News From 3/4 We love learning when it involves working
cooperatively with our friends…
During spelling this week, we have been playing a
game that helps us to recognise and identify
missing graphemes. There has been a lot of
‘healthy’ competition happening, and some
excellent discussions around our spelling patterns
and list words.
Sometimes activities are so much fun, we forget
we are actually doing school work!!
In the 3/4 class, one of our greatest strengths (and
we have many!!) is how well we work together and
support each other. If you came to visit us during
the day, you would see how calm, settled and
focused we are – spelling this week was just
another example of the high-quality learning
happening every day.
News from 1/2
Year 1/2 have been very busy again this week.
We are increasing our reading stamina each day!
We are up to 10 minutes of silent reading.
Just a reminder it is important to listen to your
child/children read each night.
Kindergarten News
Last Tuesday, Kindergarten had a visit from Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre. We read ‘The Ugly Bug’ with Mr McKenzie and Mrs French and they brought a leaf insect with them which we thought was very interesting.
We also looked at patterns in nature and we made our own nature designs. We used rocks, sticks, leaves and other items from outdoors to create our own nature pictures.
News from 5/6 Dear Duncan…
5/6 have been studying persuasive writing based
around the book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by
Drew DeWalt. One task was to jointly construct a
sample letter to one of the crayons… Here are
some samples we were very proud of– and these
are only the first draft!!
Rising Salt!
In Science, 5/6
have been
studying the
effects salinity
has on plants
and their growth. We have some
definite results already!
