Auto repair shop opens

Travis Bryant works on a pickup in his newly opened business locatedon Main Street in Stapleton. Bryant Auto & Diesel Repair is now housedin the Salisbury Implement building.

After searching for some time fora place to repair vehicles in Staple-ton, Travis Bryant is now open forbusiness in the Salisbury Imple-ment building.

Bryant Auto & Diesel Repair of-fers all types of engine repair.

“We can do lawn mowers, chainsaws, pickups, cars and trucks,”Bryant said.

Bryant grew up in Julesburg, Col-orado, and graduated from North-east Junior College in Sterling,Colorado. He moved south in 2003to work in the oil fields.

Bryant received training at WellControl School and obtained hiswelding license. He was home-based in Louisiana and worked 12years all over the world on off-shore platforms as a marine engi-neer.

“Actually a marine engineer isjust a glorified marine mechanic,”Bryant said. “One thing is for sureyou learn a lot working off-shoreand you have to think fast. Whenyou’re off-shore and you don’thave the parts you need, some-times you just have to make dowith what you have.”

Bryant decided to relocate to becloser to family and chose NorthPlatte as his sister and her hus-band own a flooring businessthere.

He and his fiance, Cassandra,purchased their home in Staple-ton from the Kenneth Brosius es-tate.

“We were looking for a rural set-ting and a town close to NorthPlatte,” Bryant said. “After wemoved here I saw there was a bigneed for a mechanic.”

That’s when Bryant started seek-ing out a place for his businessafter taking on work at his garageat home.

Bryant is working with Scott Sal-isbury and cleaning up the build-ing with the ultimate goal ofowning it.

Bryant Auto & Diesel Repair isworking on buses and vehicles forStapleton Public Schools, and thebuilding offers two large overheaddoors to get vehicles in and outeasily.

Bryant has joined the StapletonArea Chamber of Commerce andenjoys auto racing and robotics.He is an avid gun enthusiast.

“I want to revive a business intown and I am working hard toown the building,” Bryant said. “Ilove this community and the peo-ple have treated me very wellsince I moved here.”

Bryant said he believes if youtake care of your customers, theywill take care of you. He added, “Ahandshake still means somethinghere and that’s very important tome.”

Bryant is continuing to clean upand make improvements in thebuilding - and work on vehicles atthe same time.

The appointment of anew Village of Stapletonboard member and the 1& 6 year street hearingwere among items on theagenda of the regular Vil-lage of Stapleton Board ofTrustees meeting heldWednesday, December 13,at the Stapleton Commu-nity Center.

Michelle Cassell was ap-pointed to replace theopen seat on the board.The vacancy occurredafter the resignation ofBob Denny, who moved toNorth Platte.

Trustees approved the 1& 6 Year street plan thatincluded the addition ofarmor coating to all of DStreet, the rest of B Street,and part of Main Street.

Street SuperintendentBrent Burklund was onhand to answer questionsregarding the sewer la-goons. Burklund will re-search options andpresent that informationto the board.

Village salaries were setfor officers and employ-ees, The Stapleton Enter-prise was appointed theofficial newspaper for theVillage, and bonds of$50,000 for the villagetreasurer and mainte-nance man were ap-proved.

Clerk Allen requestedthat she be able to applyfor the tire clean up grant

from NDEQ. A letter willbe sent for the removal ofa dead tree on G Streetand about the fence lo-cated on First Street.

A 5-year extended war-ranty was approved forthe Western Star trashtruck motor.

Although it’s Januaryand the primary electionseems far away, Loganand McPherson CountyClerks, Debbie Myers andJudy Dailey, report filingdeadlines are closing infor local races.

Incumbent candidatesfor the upcoming May 15,2018 Primary Electionhave until February 15 tofile for their offices. An in-cumbent is anyone whonow holds any elected of-fice. The filing deadlinefor all other candidates isMarch 1.

Senator Brewerssays property taxrelief is priority

State Senator TomBrewer of the 43rd Dis-trict states property taxreduction has been hisnumber one prioritysince being sworn into of-fice and still is.

“I’m working closelywith Senator Erdman andhis property tax bill, LB829. This bill would pro-vide about a 30% reduc-tion in property taxes forNebraskan’s. Even thoughagricultural land valua-tion has increased 162% inthe last 10 years, I’m stillnot very hopeful this billwill pass the legislature.This is why the people aredoing an identical meas-ure for a ballot initiative.Signature gathering forthat effort will begin thismonth. I strongly encour-

age everyone to supportthis effort,” SenatorBrewer said.

Senator Brewer said heis also working with Sena-tor Dan Hughes, Chair-man of the NaturalResources Committee onan amendment, possiblya whole new bill, to ad-dress concerns with LB504, his wind energymoratorium bill from lastsession.

“I want to get that bill orsomething similar votedout of committee. If allthat comes together, thiswill be my priority bill forthis session.”
