Socialization and Agencies
Socialization
It is a life long process whereby an individual develop their human potential, learns the culture/norms and values of the society and become a member of that society.
Starts from birth and ends in death.
Socialization
When babies enter into this social world, they are totally dependent on others to meet their daily needs.
Slowly they learn who they are and what is expected from them in the society
It happens through the process of interaction.
Importance of Socialization
Case studies show that children who grew without human contact suffer from profound development disorders that endure through out their lives.
Anna and Isabelle experience extreme isolation from their birth
Illegitimate children. Family wanted to keep their birth a secret. Hence they were isolated.
Anna was put in a dark room and saw the hands of someone who left food
Isabelle lived with her deaf and mute mother.
When they were discovered at the age of 12, anna was not able to sit, walk, talk or take food normally
Isabelle was better when compared to anna
Anna after intense learning could only learn the language and skills of a two year old
Died of jaundice
Isabelle remained two years behind her school mates in performance.
Jungle boy raised by wolves- growled, walked like animals
He too died at a very young age.
All these shows the devastating effects of the isolation.i.e. lack of sz.
