What is a Sitemap?A site map is a list of pages of a web site accessible to crawlers or users.It can be either a document in any form used as a planning tool for Web design, or a Web page that lists the pages on a Web site, typically organized in hierarchical fashion.
There are two popular versions of a site map. • An XML Sitemap is a structured format that a user doesn't need to see, but it tells the search engine about the pages in your site.• HTML sitemaps are designed for the user to help them find content on the page. This helps visitors and search engine find pages on the site.
Purpose of a Sitemap• A sitemap is a website design planning tool. It is used to:
• Map out the site architecture*• Structure• Navigation• Page hierarchy;
– Categorise the site content into logical groups, which will have meaning for the user;
– Organise the order of the pages of the site, to create logical paths (so that targeted users achieve the purpose of their visit);
