Maximum safety values of the RS 485-IS:
The requirements for the RS 485-IS are included in the PTB report
“Year 113, Volume 2/2003” and are defined as follows:
Max. input voltage between signal lines: Ui = 4.2 V
Max. input current on signal lines: Ii = 4.8 A
The voltage sources have a linear characteristic curve.
Maximum L/R ratio of the cable: L’/R’ = 15 H/
The cable capacity does not represent any additional danger for the
relevant voltage (< 10 V). Nevertheless, for functional reasons, cable
capacity for the bus cable is restricted to C' < 40 nF/km.
No concentrated inductances are permissible on the RS 485-iS. The
capacities on the RS 485-iS must be aligned to a standard RS 485
installation for PROFIBUS.
If these limit values are observed, no combustible sparks will occur in the bus system.
