“We proclaim Jesus as Lord and ourselves as servants for His sake.”
May 30, 2010 Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
Congratulations Graduates Sincere congratulations to all members who are graduating at this time of year. From Kinder to Graduate Degrees, many
members of the parish are celebrating m i l e s t o n e s i n t h e i r e d uc a t i o n . Congratulations to all. May the Lord bring to completion the good work He has begun in you.
Parish Council As I mentioned last week, four members of
the Parish Council have completed their three years of service on the council.
¨ Larry Doyle
¨ Barb Daraskavich
¨ Octavia Morris
¨ Chris Sutton
I deeply appreciate their service and thank them on behalf of the entire parish. May the Lord bless them for their generous sharing of their gifts and talents with the parish community.
10 members of the parish were nominated and agreed to serve if chosen. The 10 names were placed in a bowl and Chris Sutton, the outgoing council president, chose four names at the 10:45 am Mass last Sunday, the Feast of Pentecost. Much as the
apostles chose Matthias to be one of the 12 by lot, we pray for the direction of the Holy Spirit and then draw from among the nominees to fill the vacancies on the Parish Council. The four names drawn were:
¨ Tom Ryan
¨ Walt Romano
¨ Van Rohr
¨ Art Cario

Blessed Monstrance In preparation for the 2005 Year of the Eucharist, Pope John Paul II blessed six monstrances, to be circulated among the dioceses of the world within six geographical regions: North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Africa and the Pacific. The purpose of the traveling monstrances was to encourage the faithful, parish by parish, prayer by prayer, to worldwide Eucharistic adoration for the intention of increased vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
A Blessed Monstrance has returned to Detroit as part of the
celebration of The Year For Priests. This image is one of the six Blessed Monstrances for vocations. It serves as a symbol of the connection between the Eucharist and priestly and religious vocations.
Sacred Heart Major Seminary and The Fisherman's Fund originally hosted the Blessed Monstrance in 2008 in conjunction with the 175th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Detroit. This year the National Shrine builds on that tradition with all night adoration beginning after the 6 pm Sunday Mass on June 6, the Feast of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin immediately following Mass with the Knights of Columbus Color Guard standing watch until 6:15 am on Monday, June 7. Mass will be as usual at 6:30 am with Benediction at 8:15 am before the 8:30 am Mass.
Please join us for all night adoration to pray for vocations and to support our priests,
seminarians, and all those who love and serve Our Lord, His Church, and each and
every one of us.
Catholic Services Appeal donation cards can be
returned to the Offices of the National Shrine of the Little Flower in a number of
ways convenient to you: using the return envelope, you can mail your donor
card back to the National Shrine; you can drop the card off at the
administrative reception desk in Heritage Hall, or you could drop it off in the
collection basket at any of the weekend masses. The most important thing is to
return your card. If you haven’t picked up your card and you would still like to
do so, you can pick the card up in Heritage Hall. No gift is considered too
small, but the benefits you provide the National Shrine of the Little Flower
through your contribution are tremendous. Your contribution helps maintain
the health of the Parish we love and care about.

May 2010 Human Trafficking
General: That the shameful and monstrous commerce in human beings, which
sadly involves millions of women and children, may be ended. Priests, Religious and Committed Lay People
Missionary: That ordained ministers, religious women and men, and lay people involved in apostolic work may understand how to infuse missionary enthusiasm into
the communities entrusted to their care.
I am also grateful to those who were willing to serve but whose names were not drawn. All are excellent candidates and are involved in many different parish groups and activities. They are:

Corpus Christi Next Sunday, June 6, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ, or Corpus Christi. Annually on this feast there is a procession with the Eucharist. This year the procession takes on a special significance here at the National Shrine of the Little Flower. The monstrance that will be used is one that was especially blessed by Pope John Paul II. It was his intention that the monstrance travel from parish to parish across the country to promote prayer before the Blessed Sacrament for an increase in vocations to the priesthood.
The procession will take place at the conclusion of the 6 pm Sunday Mass with adoration all night long in the church. There will be a pause in adoration for the 6:30 am Mass on Monday morning. Adoration will conclude with benediction just before the 8:30 am Mass.
I would encourage as many as possible to spend some time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament during this all night vigil. Pray for an increase in vocations.
Rosie, Carlito & Kodiak Rosie and Kodi have a little plush fox. Thankfully there is no stuffing in it, but it does have 2 squeakers in it, one in the head and one in the tail. Rosie and Kodi each grab the poor little fox by a squeaker and play
tug of war. The one who wins, be it Rosie or Kodi, immediately dangles the little fox in front of the other so that they can grab on and the tugging starts all over again. It is all a lot of fun for them, but the squeakers are enough to drive you crazy.

Mass Intentions Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration "In the Presence of the unspeakable mystery of
the Trinity the highest praise is silence, the silence of
the soul that adores, knowing that it is incapable of
praising or glorifying the divine Majesty worthily."
-Divine Intimacy
"The Virgin Mary, in her docile humility, became
the handmaid of divine Love; she accepted the
Father's will and conceived the Son by the power
of the Holy Spirit. In her the Almighty built a temple worthy of
Him and made her the model and image of the Church,
mystery and house of communion for all human beings. May
Mary, Mirror of the Blessed Trinity, help us to grow in faith in the
Trinitarian mystery."

Wow!!! What a great week is has been! Kodiak has
found someone else to bother: Carlito!!! It has been so
awesome! Kodiak is spending his time chewing at
Carlito’s cage bars and Carlito squawks back and tries
to nip Kodiak. What is so cool is that they are both
leaving me alone!
Well, it seems that I made have made a mistake. A few weeks ago, I
asked about the picture of St. Therese’s family dog, Tom. I said the
picture was in the Guerin room. I was wrong. My bifocals must not have
been working well that day because the name of the room is the Martin
room. Thanks Diane for pointing that out.
Also, someone had presented a challenge to me, and I don’t know the
answer. Apparently, Father Coughlin had a likeness of his dog “Pal”
carved into 2’ x 4’ piece of stone. Does anyone know where the dog is?
This person would really like to know and so would I.
Last week, I asked about the statues in the side wings of the church.
They are the Sacred Heart and St. Jude. Originally, there were
tapestries that hung behind each. But later, the Fruits of the Holy
Spirit were painted onto one and the flags of all the world’s countries (at
the time) were painted on the other. The flags are fascinating because
some of the countries do not exist now.
Let’s move our roamings out of doors. Outside, there is a place with
a fountain. Who is in the fountain? What else is in the area? Please
email me at [email protected].
Psst… adults, don’t forget to put the top secret date and time of
September 13 at 7 pm on your calendars. Something exciting will be
happening in the church!

of Women) Tuesday Evenings, July 6-September 7, 7 to 9 pm National Shrine of the Little Flower Conference Center, Room B
Join us as we delve into Mulieris Dignitatem, On the Dignity and Vocation of Women. During the weekly studies we will explore this apostolic letter, written in the form of a meditation in which we ponder the truths of the faith and the role faith plays in our own lives. In Mulieris Dignitatem, Pope John Paul II meditates on the anthropology of man and woman, God’s intention for their relationship, and the result of original sin. He also explores the relationship that Jesus had with women and the reason for the all–male priesthood. This 10-week discussion and study group is part of the ENDOW (Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Women) series. Cost for the class is $60, which includes all materials. The course will be facilitated by Linda Rathburn. Register online at www.endowonline.com. Financial assistance is available to those in need--contact Margaret McCann at 303.715.3224 at the National ENDOW Office in Denver for more information or for assistance in registering. Academy Update Despite the rain that kicked off their trip to Camp Copneconic on Saturday, May 22, eighth graders had a terrific time on their weekend outing.
Some heavy hitting and great outfield maneuvering lead the seventh and eighth grade Academy baseball team to victory in a double-header on May 22. St. Anastasia fell to Shrine 11-0, and St. Pat’s lost to the Knights 4-2. Congratulations to the Knights as they head to the CYO semi -finals.
Mrs. Knudsen’s eighth grade class is finishing their novel about the Holocaust, while her US History class learned about immigration and other progressive reforms.
Mrs. Reichel’s Literature class and Mrs. Hewitt’s seventh grade English combined efforts to complete a writing and language arts assignment. It was a first attempt by both teachers to work on an Across the Curriculum assignment.
Finally, the Academy is gearing up for their year-end reviews and final exams.
