Communication • Communication is fundamental to children’s development; children
need to be able to understand and be understood.
Language• The method of human communication, either spoken or written,
consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way.
What does it mean?Around 10% of all children have a Speech, Language or Communication delay.

•Children from low income families lag behind high income counterparts at school entry by sixteen months in vocabulary. •Vocabulary at age 5 has been found to be the best predictor of whether children who experienced social deprivation in childhood were able to ‘buck the trend’ and escape poverty in later adult life
