Reminder Yass Public School now has a student who is allergic to all nuts and is in danger of having
an anaphylactic reaction. Parents are all encouraged to ensure that no foods that
contain nuts (eg peanut butter and Nutella) are packed in lunch boxes or brought in for
class parties or Birthdays. All students are taught not to share foods at school. Please
reinforce this important health message at home.
World of Maths Roadshow On the 13
th of October the World of Maths Roadshow visited our school. All Yass Public School
students had a wonderful time participating in engaging, hands on problem solving activities. The road
show was a wonderful opportunity for the students to see how Maths can be applied to real life situations
and that MATHS can be fun!

A Message from Your Principal On behalf of the staff at Yass Public School I would like to thank our school community
for their care and support following the passing of our wonderful Mr Anderson. We will
be holding a Remembrance Assembly for Mr Anderson from 2.50pm next Monday, 24th
October. Further details will be given on a separate note today.
Last weekend’s Yass Public and Berinba Murrumbateman Field Days food stall was a
huge success. Our stall won the award for best food stall for the second year in a row - we
are on a hat trick!! Thank you to Sonia Finch and Kelly Puckett for all their wonderful
organisation and to all the helpers for their contribution.
Our best wishes have travelled to the State Athletics carnival with Molly and Peyton
Freeman this week. Peyton will be participating in long jump this afternoon. Molly has
come 16th
in the State for 200m ( a wonderful result!) was fastest in the 100m heats and
will run in the semi-final today. Good luck!
I am pleased to announce that Mrs Hayley Bradley has been appointed as our Teacher

My Holidays
The Friday on the last day of school I was really keen to go on school holidays.” Ah I
need a two week holiday” I said as I walked out the gate and onto the bus.
The first day of the holidays seemed boring until mum loaded us in the car. Naturally I
just thought that we were going to Canberra on a shopping trip until I looked in the back
and saw our bikes, our toys and all our suitcases packed and ready. That’s when I knew it
wasn’t a trip to Canberra.
Three hours later we arrived in Batemans Bay. I was really excited because I personally
love going to Batemans Bay. We stayed there for 4 nights and 5 days. We had so much
fun! We went to mini golf, the zoo and lots and lots of restaurants . I had lots of fun. The
Holidays rocked!

Yass Public School Fete
On the 16th of September Yass Public School held their yearly spring fete.
The fete lasted two and a half hours and raised $5000 for a projector screen for the
school’s new hall.
Some people came and gave some wonderful performances including magic tricks,
singing and a wonderful performance from the Yass Gymnastics Cheerleaders.
There were some amazing stalls too like hair spray, spiders, apple bopping and lots more!
All of the stalls were created and managed by 5/6 students except for the ones in the hall.
I really quite enjoyed the fete and I loved the hair spray, spiders and the wonderful
performance from the Yass Gymnastics Cheerleaders.

THE DISASTER
Down deep under the sea there is a kingdom. The kingdom of Atlanta. It was a peaceful
kingdom but what the people didn’t know was that their beloved Mountain was going to
explode.
It was a beautiful day in Atlanta, the kids were playing and the parents were watching TV
and reading the newspaper. Suddenly a news broadcast interrupted every station on TV.
IN BREAKING NEWS!
Mount White is an active volcano and was about to blow. We have an hour to evacuate
the kingdom.
People everywhere were screaming. Then a little girl screamed at the top of her lungs
“stop!”, but everyone kept going. “STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP!” shouted the girl.
Finally everyone stopped to listen to the girl.
“We need to work together to get everyone evacuated quickly” she said. So everyone got
into groups and evacuated the kingdom. Three days later the people went back to their
ruined kingdom. What shall we do?
“This is just like what happened to Pompeii. We can’t stay here” they said.
They salvaged what they could then moved to the surface and adapted to the lifestyle up
there. They built a new and improved kingdom and from that day on it was known as the
town of Yass.

Murrumbateman Field Days The field days were another great success this year for both Yass and Berinba Public
Schools. We don’t have final figures yet. I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to
each and every volunteer who helped at the field days, without you it would not be the
success it is THANK YOU ALL.
I would like to give a HUGE, HUGE THANK YOU to Kelly Puckett. Kelly has been
my back bone through this year’s field days, thank you Kelly.
Our food stall again for the second time won the “Catering Excellence Award” – Well
done everyone.
Cheers Sonia Finch
On behalf of the P&C I would like to welcome Patrina Langfield who has started working
in the school canteen as the manager. The canteen will be open for business on
Wednesday and Friday of term 4.
The term 4 menu was sent home on Monday and there is a copy on the website.
At the P&C meeting held on Monday night a small but happy group were in attendance.
The meeting covered a number of areas, some of these were
The infants toilet block
A notice board at the main gate
The bus system
Treasurer’s position for next year
The canteen
Fete profit
Boorowa Carnival.
The next meeting will be on the 14th November 2011, at 7:00pm in the YPS staff room,
please come along and share your ideas.
I would like to thank Lyn and Phil for doing a wonderful job of organizing the fete this
year, it was a very happy occasion and everyone seemed to be having fun.
Thank you to the parents who helped out at Murrumbateman Field Days on the week-end
as this is one of our major fundraisers. We have limited our fundraising to three events
this year, as we realize people are committed to many different groups.
Caring, Sharing and Shaping the Future, this is what Mr. David Anderson gave to our
children and he will be sadly missed.
Hope to see you at school,

Tribute to David Anderson.
As you know Mr David Anderson passed away on Monday the 17th
October 2011.
Mr A was a kind and caring man, he helped and participated in many school events.
He tried and succeeded to help and encourage the students at Yass Public to get the most
out of everything.
He was very supportive to me in Drama and Chess club. He was the man that was back
stage in our victory at the East Goulburn Chess Carnival.
He has inspired me along with other teachers to become a teacher and hopefully I will
have the opportunity to tell my students about him and the wonderful things that he did at
Yass Public in the short time he was here.
He was a dedicated and happy teacher and proud to teach at our school.
I am sure he will be missed at this school because I know I will miss him with all of my
heart.
