ST. GABRIEL CATHOLIC CHURCH 309 West Lake Ave,
Fulda, MN 56131 Jesus Christ The King, November 26, 2017
FROM THE DESK OF MONSIGNOR HEITING
THE SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING…
This weekend the Church celebrates the Solemnity of
Christ the King. As Americans, the concept of kingship is
very foreign to us. For those old enough to remember,
John and Jackie Kennedy would probably have been the
closest we’ve come to “American royalty.” In his gospel
for this weekend, Saint Matthew presents in Jesus a very
different kind of king. Jesus is a king who expects to
serve rather than to be served. The corporal works of
mercy mentioned in our gospel challenge you and I to
servant leadership also. In serving others, we serve
Christ!
THE SEASON OF ADVENT…
Next weekend is the First Sunday of Advent. What will you
be doing in your homes to mark this special season? A
family Advent wreath is always a good idea, especially if
you help the children to make it. Also, mark your
calendars for our Tri-Parish Advent Reconciliation
Service: Sunday, December 17 at 2:00 PM at Saint Gabriel
Church.
PARISH CLUSTER WISHES…
Our sympathy and prayers to the family of Saint Gabriel
parishioner Jerry Ehleringer who was buried from the
parish on November 16, 2017. May his soul rest in peace.

EPIPHANY PLAY…
THANK YOU TO OUR
FHS JUNIORS & SENIORS!! These students have graciously stepped forward to
direct this year’s Epiphany Play, slated for Sunday,
January 7.
If you have children who are able to take part, please
contact Peg ASAP. The sooner we know who will be
participating (and we hope it’s a lot of kids!), the better the
Juniors & Seniors (& teacher Renee Dorpinghaus) will be
able to plan! With Release Time classes taking a break over
Christmas, we’re hoping to be able to organize early!
Please don’t put off contacting the parish office
Children of ALL ages are encouraged to
participate!
We’ll probably practice once on
Saturday, January 6 ~ So, time commitment will be minimal
~ and the joy they will gain from taking an active role at

Christ in the Eucharist brought to your home, please contact the parish office. If you are a Eucharistic Minister interested in delivering the Eucharist to the home bound, please let Monsignor Heiting know.
UPDATING YOUR PHONE NUMBER: If you have decided to eliminate your ‘land line’ and rely on your cell phone, please don’t forget St. Gabriel's with your new numbers (if you don’t mind). St. Gabriel’s church needs to keep up-to-date!! Texting is very popular this day and age and email is another method of communicating to each other. You can call, text, email, ect our office. The numbers are on the page of our weekly bulletin and in our monthly ‘Trumpet’.
Don’t forget to check out the GREAT Lighthouse CD’s in the south entrance of Church. There are a variety

In this bulletin is a reprint of the Mass intentions. There were some errors in the Mass
intentions sheet in the Trumpet. Sorry for any confusion that caused. ~ Nico Doom
In the fourth century a Greek religious romance on the Loves of Cecilia and Valerian was written in glorification of virginal life with the purpose of taking the place of then-popular sensual romances. Consequently, until better evidence is produced, we must conclude that St. Cecilia was not known or venerated in Rome until about the time when Pope Gelasius (496) introduced her name into his Sacramentary. It is said that there was a church dedicated to St. Cecilia in Rome in the fifth century, in which Pope Symmachus held a council in 500. The story of St. Cecilia is not without beauty or merit. She is said to have been quite close to God and prayed often: In the city of Rome there was a virgin named Cecilia, who came from an extremely rich family and was given in marriage to a youth named Valerian. She wore sackcloth next to her skin, fasted, and invoked the saints, angels, and virgins, beseeching them to guard her virginity During her wedding ceremony she was said to have sung in her heart to God and before the consummation of her nuptials, she told her husband she had taken a vow of virginity and had an angel protecting her. Valerian asked to see the angel as proof, and Cecilia told him he would have eyes to see once he traveled to the third milestone on the Via Appia (Appian Way) and was baptized by Pope Urbanus.
