EntryCriteriaEntrantEligibility1.CrewsmustabidebytheeligibilityrulesofHHI.2.Entrantsenteredintointernationalandworldeventsareresponsibleforverifyingpersonalinformationandcertifyingtheirnationaleligibilityanddatesofbirth.NumberandSelectionofEntrants/CrewsTheeventorganizerdeterminestheentrycriteriaforlocal,nationalandinternationalcompetitions.AlleventsmustbeconductedusingtheHipHopInternationalRulesandRegulations.CrewsparticipatingintheWorldHipHopDanceChampionshipadvanceeitherfrom(a)nationalqualificationroundswithintheircountryproducedbyHipHopInternationallicensees,(b)selectionsbyHHIinternationalrepresentativesand/or(c)byspecialinvitationfromHHI.AcountryintheWorldHipHopDanceChampionshipmayenternomorethanthree(3)crewsineachagedivision.CompositionofaCrewAcrewconsistsofaminimumfive(5)toamaximumofeight(8)members.Themembersofthecrewmaybemadeupofanycombinationofmalesandfemaleswithinthedefinedagedivisions.AgeDivisionsJunior:Agesseven(7)totwelve(12)Varsity:Agesthirteen(13)toseventeen(17)Adult:Ageseighteen(18)andolderExample:A12‐year‐oldturning13withinthecompetitionyear(by12/31)maycompeteintheJuniororJuniorVarsitydivision.Likewisea17‐year‐oldturning18withinthecompetitionyear(by12/31)cancompeteasaVarsityorAdult.AgeRequirement1.EachParticipant’sproofofagewillbevalidatedbysubmittingtotheeventorganizer,priortoalocalornationalcompetition,acurrentdriver’slicense,birthcertificatecopy,studentIDand/orpassportindicatingdateofbirth.Forinternational/worldcompetitionacopyofabirthcertificateorpassportarerequired.2.Acrewmemberwhoseagefallsbetweentwoagedivisionsinthecompetitionyear(endingDecember31)maycompeteineitherdivisionwithinthatyear.3.Uptotwomembersinacrewmaycompeteupintoanolderagedivisionbutnocrewmembermaycompeteinayoungeragedivision.ParticipationLimitAcrewmembermaynotcompeteinmorethanone(1)crewperagedivisionpercompetition.NationalityRequirements(forinternationalorworldchampionships)1.Eachcrewmembermustbeacitizenorresidentofthecountrytheyrepresent.2.Proofofcitizenshipwillbevalidatedbysubmitting,priortocompetition,acopyofacrewmember’sbirthcertificate,driver’slicenseand/orpassporttothecompetitionorganizeruponrequest.3.Acrewmemberdeclaringresidencymustresidewithinthecountryaminimumofsixmonthsandmustbeabletoprovideofficialwrittendocumentationtosupportsuchadeclaration.4.Acrewmembermaynotcompeteformorethantwo(2)countrieswithinthree(3)consecutiveyears.FormsandReleases1.Entrantsmustcompleteandsignallforms,includingbutnotlimitedtoregistration,music,andinsuranceinformation.TheformsmustbereturnedpriortotheregistrationdeadlinetothenationalHHIaffiliateofficewiththeappropriateregistrationfeesorregistrationmaybedenied.2.ReleaseofLiability:Eachcrewmembermustsignandsubmitareleaseofliabilityformpriortothecompetition,releasingHHI,theorganizer,theiragents,officers,staffandsponsorsfromliabilityforanyaccidentorinjuryoccurringtoacrewmemberpriorto,during,orafteraHHIeventorcompetition.3.ReleaseofLikeness:AllcrewsmustsignareleaseoflikenessformpermittingHHIandthecompetition

organizer,agentsorsponsorstofilm,videotape,and/orrecordthecrewsperformance(s)andeventparticipationforuseintelevision,motionpictures,homevideo,internet,radio,pressreleases,media,publicrelations,etc.EntryChangesorSubstitutionsForcircumstancesbeyondthecontrolofthecrewmember(s)(includingsituationseffectingDefendingChampions),substitutionsofparticipantsinthecrewmaybemade.Amaximumoftwosubstitutionswillbepermittedforcrewsconsistingof5to6crewmembersandamaximumof3substitutionsforcrewscomprisedof7to8crewmembers.Acrewmayalsoelectnottosubstituteitsmissingcrewmember(s)aslongasthecrewdoesnotgobelowfive(5)members.Theeventorganizerand/orthecompetitionJudiciaryDirectormustapprovesuchcircumstances.CompetitionOrderofAppearanceJuniorDivisionVarsityDivisionAdultDivisionNote:Thecompetitionorganizer(s)maychangetheorderofappearancewithnoticetothecrews.CompetitionFloorThestandardcompetitionflooris30’x30’(9.1metersx9.1meters)forallchampionshipevents.Thecompetitionorganizermayadjustthesizeoftheperformancefloorandmustnotifyallparticipantsinadvanceofthecompetition.Undernocircumstancewillthecompetitionfloorbelessthan20’deepx30’wide(6.1metersx9.1meters).Attire*Attiremayincludeaccessoriessuchashats,caps,gloves,scarves,jewelry,etc.Removingpiecesofclothingduringtheperformanceispermittedprovideditisnotoffensiveoroutofcharacter.Discardedclothingshouldbeplacedoutsidethecompetitionareaandneverthrownoffthestageintotheaudience.Appropriateundergarmentsmustbewornbyallcrewmembersbothmaleandfemale,atalltimes.Clothingtooshortand/ortootightwillbescrutinizedandmaybedeemedinappropriateespeciallyforoverexposureofcertainareasofthebodyand/orageappropriateness.Bodyoils,bodyorfacepaintsorothersubstancesappliedtothebodyorclothingthatmayaffectthecleandrysurfaceofthestageandthesafetyoffellowcompetitorsareprohibited.Crewsmayweardance/stompboots,sneakersorathleticsportshoes.Allfootwearmusthaveclean,non‐scuffsoles(streetshoes,dressshoes,highheelsandstreetbootsarenotacceptable).Tapshoes,jazzshoesandbarefeetareprohibited.PropsPropsthatarenotconsideredanintegralpartofacrew’s“attire”areprohibited(i.e.canes,chairs,tambourines,musicalinstruments).Kneepadsoranyotherperformingapparatustoaidinthesafetyandproperexecutionofamoveisallowedbutconcealed,whenpossible,soasnottodetractfromtheperformanceorthejudges’concentrationontheperformance.WhenindoubtcontactHipHopInternationalforclarification.*Note:seepage6–StreetPresence/AttireMedicalAttention1.Itistheresponsibilityofthecrew,coachorcrewadministratortoreportacrewmember’sinjuryorillnesstotheeventorganizer(s).2.Ifatanytimepriortoorduringcompetitionacrewmemberisill,injured,orhis/herphysicaloremotionalconditionisatriskbyparticipating,he/shemaybedeclaredineligibletocompete,ordisqualifiedfromcompetingfurther.Thecompetitionorganizer(s)reservestherighttowithdrawanycompetitorwhoappearstohavesuchseriousdisabilityorinjuryorneedsmedicalattention.3.Thecompetitionorganizer(s)reservestherighttorequestthesubmittalofaphysician’swrittenauthorizationforacrewmembertocompetewhoisdeemedmedicallyoremotionallyatriskbythecompetitionorganizer.

TechnicalEquipment/SoundandLighting1.Theaudio/visualequipmentmustprovideprofessionalstandardsoundandlightingqualityforthecrewsandspectators.2.Theeventshouldincludeanamplifier,mixingboard,CDplayerandaminimumoffour(4)soundspeakers:two(2)onstagedirectedattheperformers,andtwo(2)directedtotheaudience.3.Speedcontrol(pitch)ofthemusicalequipmentisnotguaranteed.PerformanceMusicRequirements1.Theroutinemustbeperformed,initsentirety,tomusicselectedandpreparedbythecrews.Thecompetitionorganizer(s)willnotprovidethecrews’music.2.MusiclengthforJuniorCrews:Thelengthofrecordedmusicforajuniorcrewroutineisoneminutethirtyseconds(1:30)withafive(5)second(plusorminus)graceperiod.MusiclengthforVarsityandAdultCrews:Thelengthofrecordedmusicforvarsityandadultcrewsistwo(2)minuteswithafive(5)second(plusorminus)graceperiod.3.ThemusicforJuniorCrewsmustincludeonesegmentofaminimumoftwentyseconds(:20)ofcontinuousmusicuninterruptedbymusicaleditsorsoundeffectsplacedanywherewithinroutine. ThemusicforVarsityandAdultCrewsmustincludeatleastonesegmentofaminimumofthirtyseconds(:30)ofcontinuousmusicuninterruptedbymusicaleditsorsoundeffectsplacedanywherewithinroutine. 4.Acrew’scompetitionmusicmustberecordedonaCDandbetheonlypieceofmusicrecordedontheCD.5.TheCDmustbeingoodconditioncontainingnoscratches.Itisacrew’sresponsibilitytokeepaback‐upCDavailableatalltimesforuse.6.ThecrewnameanddivisionmustbeprintedontheCD.7.TheexacttimewithinthecompetitionmusicwherethecontinuousanduninterruptedmusicsegmentstartsandendsmustbeprintedontheCD.8.Thereisnomaximumorminimumnumberofsongsorrecordingsthatmaybeusedintheroutine.Note:thejudgingpanelconcludesthatfewersongsmaybepreferableovermultiplemusicselections/mixesallowingforgreatercrewfocusoncontinuousdancing.9.Soundeffectsandoriginalcompositionsarepermitted.Crewsarehighlycautionedandadvisedagainstthemusicbecomingtoocomplexwithtoomanyedits,soundeffectsorsongspreventingthemfromexhibitingacleanandcontinuousdanceperformance.10.Thecompetitionmusicmustnotcontaininappropriate,lewdoroffensivelanguage.11.Musiceditsorchanges‐Acrewmayeditorsubstituteitsoriginalmusicwhenadvancingfromoneroundtoanother.Thechange/editmustbemadeandprovidedtothecompetitionorganizerwithintheallottedtimepermittedbythecompetitionorganizer.DuringtheUSAandtheWorldHipHopDanceChampionshipthecut‐offtimeformusic(CD)substitutionorchangeisnolessthanthree(3)hourspriortothestartofthesemifinalroundsandnolessthantenhourspriortothestartofthefinalroundofcompetition.Nochangesoreditswillbeacceptedbeyondthistimeperiod.12.Crewsmayberequiredtoprovidethefollowingmusicinformationinwritingtothecompetitionorganizer(s)priortotheeventforeachsongusedintheroutine.a.Title,b.Artist,c.Composer,d.Publishere.RecordingCompany13.Duetovaryingcopyrightlaws,thecompetitionorganizer(s)donotguaranteethatacrew’smusicwillbeusedatliveevents,ontelevision,filmortheatricalbroadcastsorotherdistributionmediums.Thecompetitionorganizer(s)reservetherighttoaskthecrewtoreplacethemusicforonethatisacceptableortheorganizermaysubstituteacrew’smusicforanotherpieceofmusicoftheorganizer’schoiceforsuchsituations.PracticeRounds/TechRehearsal1.Unlesscircumstancesexistthatpreventapracticeround,eachcrewwillbegiventheopportunitytopractice(block)theirroutinetotheirmusiconthecompetitionperformancearea(stage)atleastoncepriortothestartoftheCompetition.Thecrewisresponsibleforcomingtothepracticeroundontimeoritmaybeforfeited.CompetitionRounds

1.Acompetitioncanhaveuptothreerounds(Preliminary,SemifinalandFinal)dependingonthetotalnumberofentriesandthetimeavailable.Thedecisionshallbedeterminedbytheeventorganizerandconveyedtoallparticipantswithampletimepriortothestartofthecompetition.2.Whenacompetitionconsistsofonlytworounds(preliminariesandfinal)thenumberofcrewsadvancingineachdivisionofcompetitionisbasedonthetotalnumberofentries,totaltimeallocatedandthedecisionoftheeventorganizerusingthefollowingscale:1‐10Crews–upto5plusdefendingchampionadvancetothefinal11–15Crews–upto7plusdefendingchampionadvancetothefinal16+Crews–upto10plusdefendingchampionadvancetothefinalWhenacompetitionconsistsofthreerounds–preliminaries,semifinalsandfinals,thenumberofcrewsadvancingfromthepreliminaryroundtothesemifinalroundisupto50%ofthetotalnumbercompeting.Thenumberofcrewsadvancingfromthesemifinalstothefinalroundisasfollows:Junior–upto6+defendingchampionVarsity–upto8+defendingchampionAdult–upto10+defendingchampionTheWorldHipHopDanceChampionshipisconductedinthree(3)roundsofcompetition­preliminary,semifinalandfinal.RoutineChangesAcrewmayre‐choreographorchangetheiroriginalroutinewhenadvancingfromoneroundofcompetitiontoanother.PerformanceOrder1.PerformanceorderforthePreliminaryroundisdeterminedbyarandomcomputerdrawingconductedbytheeventorganizer.2.TheperformanceorderfortheSemifinalsisdeterminedbyarandomcomputerdrawingconductedbytheeventorganizer.3.TheFinalroundofthecompetitionwillincludethecrewswhoqualifiedinthesemifinalsplusthedefendingchampion(s)*,whenapplicable.Thedefendingchampion(s)willautomaticallyadvancetotheFinalroundwithouthavingtocompeteinthePreliminaryround.However,thedefendingchampion(s)mustperformtheirroutineintheSemifinalroundandreceiveascore.ThedefendingchampionsplacementorderintheFinalroundislasttocompete.*Thedefendingchampion(s)mayreturntodefendtheirtitle.Thedefendingchampion(s)isthewinning“goldmedal”crewfromthepreviousyear’schampionship.FeedbackFollowingthepostingoftheresultsandatatimedeterminedbytheeventorganizer,crewswhohavebeeneliminatedfromthecompetitionmaybeinvitedtomeetwitharepresentative(s)ofthejudgingcommitteeforareviewandcritiqueoftheirroutine(timepermitting).Onecrewmemberandtheircoachorchoreographermaytakepartinthefeedbacksession.Thefeedbacksession(lastingapproximately10minutes)isofferedaspositivereinforcementandameanstoassistcrewsforfuturecompetitions.Thejudgerepresentativemayimmediatelycancelthesessionifcrewmembersbecomeargumentativeordisrespectfuloftheprocess.TheChampionship­GeneralRulesandCriteriaTheRoutine’sLengthJuniorDivision: Theroutine’slengthforjuniorcrewsisoneminutethirtyseconds(1:30).Agraceperiodoffive(5)seconds,plusorminus,isallowedresultinginaminimumofoneminutetwenty‐fiveseconds(1:25)andamaximumofoneminutethirty‐fiveseconds(1:35).VarsityandAdultDivisions: Theroutine’slengthforvarsityandadultcrewsistwo(2)minutes.Agraceperiodoffive(5)secondsplusorminusisallowedresultinginaminimumofoneminutefiftyfiveseconds(1:55)andamaximumoftwominutesfiveseconds(2:05).

Timingbeginswiththefirstaudiblesound(includescueingbeep)andendswiththelastaudiblesound.Routinelength(music)thatislessthan(<)oneminutefifty‐fiveseconds(1:55)orisgreaterthan(>)twominutesfiveseconds(2:05)forvarsityandadultandislessthan(<)oneminutetwenty‐fiveseconds(1:25)orisgreaterthan(>)oneminutethirty‐fiveseconds(1:35)forjuniorcrewswillresultinadeduction.ScoringtheRoutineTheHipHopCrewroutineisevaluatedaccordingtothePerformanceandSkillcriteriaforthehighestpossibletotalscoreof10points.Performancecriteriaandpointvalue:Performance=50%orfivepointsofthetotalscoreThejudgeswillrewardroutinesforincorporatinguniqueandoriginal/creativemoves,ahighnumberofhip‐hopstreetdancestylesexecuted,goodusageofthestage,formations,showmanship,intensityandstreetappearanceresultinginanentertainingroutinethatevokesemotionalresponse.Creativity(10%)Choreographingandpresentingyourroutineinauniqueandoneofakindwaywithsignaturemovesandcombinationsofmovesthatareyoursalone.Originalwaystogotothefloor,gettingupfromthefloor,transitionsandmusiceditingthatsetsyouapartfromtheotherroutines.Bespecial,differentandfreshwithallaspectsofyourroutine.Staging,Spacing,Formations,andLevelchanges(10%)Thecrewmustdemonstrateawarenessofspacingbetweenthemembersthroughafullrangeofunique,complicatedandchallengingformations,interactivepartnermovesandpatterns.Thefulluseofstagewillalsobeconsidered.Theroutineshouldincludethree(3)levelsofmovement(low/mid/high)utilizingarm,hand,leg,foot,torso,andheadmovementswithtransitionsthatarecreativeandunpredictable.Showmanship,Intensity,Confidence,Projection&Presence(10%)Theroutinecontainsdynamicmovementsfrombeginningtoendbythecrewasawholeandasindividualscontainingminimalpausesandposes.Duringfeaturedperformancesbyoneormoremembersofthecrew,theremainingmembersmustcontinueperformingmovementsthataddtotheoverallintensityoftheroutine.Projectionofthecrewmembersisconsistentlystrongthroughouttheentireroutinewithanuninterrupteddisplayofconfidencemeasuredbyfacialexpression,eyecontactandbodymovement.Thecrewmembersshouldperformwithenthusiasm,passionanda“natural”abilityto“sellit”onstage.StreetPresence/Attire(10%)Streetpresenceisthecapabilityofthecrewmemberstodemonstrateanauthenticanduninhibitedrepresentationofhip‐hopdance.Streetpresenceincludesattitude,energy,postureandstreetstyle.Clothingandaccessorieswornshouldrepresentandreflecttherealcharacterandnaturalstyleoftheurbanstreetenvironmentwithauniquelookthatsetsthecrewapart.Crewmembersdonothavetobedressedidenticalorsimilar.Individualityofdressisencouraged.Crewsmaywearstylizedclothingrepresentingtheirroutine’stheme.Theatricalcostumesarenottypicaloftheurbanstreet(e.g.,storybookcharacters,animals,Halloweencostumes,etc.)andarenotrecommended.WhenindoubtcontactHipHopInternationalforclarification.EntertainmentValue/CrowdAppeal(10%)Crewmembersandtheirroutineshouldconnectwiththeaudienceandevokeemotionalresponses,i.e.,excitement,joy,laughter,involvementand/orsenseofdramarelativetothestylepresented.Theroutineshouldleaveamemorableandlastingimpression.

Stepping/GumbootsTraditionaldanceandfolkloreiswelcomeandconsideredpartofastreetdanceroutine.ComposingtheRoutineWhattoConsiderintheDevelopmentofYourRoutineTodevelopawinningroutineCAREFULLYchoosestreetdancestylesthatbestrepresentyourcrew’sstrongpointsandtheflavorofitspersonality.Crewsareencouragedtobefresh,imaginativeandinnovativeintheirchoreographyandtofollowtheirownstyleandidentity.Withinthe20secondsforJuniorsand30secondsforVarsityandAdult,uninterruptedmusicsegmentsofaroutine,crewsareencouragedtoshowcasechoreographyusingcontinuousupperandlowerbodydancemovementthroughoutthesegment.Thisisaminimum–crewsmayextendthisthroughouttheperformance.AvoidfollowingorbeinginfluencedbypastWorldChampions’routines.Thereisnodistinctmodelforawinningroutine.Whatisconsidereduniqueandspecialoneyearmaybeconsideredoverusedthenextyear.HHIjudgesseekperformancesthataredifferent,new,originalandshowcaseavarietyofauthenticurbanstreetdancestyles.Beyourselfandexpressyourcrew’sdiversitywithpassion,intensityandstyle.Awinningroutinemustincludeanampleamountofdance.Donotmakethemistake,ofusingtoomanysongsandincorporatingtoomanysoundeffectsasitofteninhibitsdanceperformance.Editingthemusicexcessivelyoraddingtoomanysoundeffectscanprohibitphrasing,8countsandmusicality.Thesongsinaroutinearemeanttoleavealastingimpressionorexpressamusicalthemeallowingforcleanuninterrupteddance.Overusageofeditsandsoundeffectsoftenleadstoanomusicnodanceoutcome.Becautiousandpreservethemusicalityofyourroutine.Frequentlyoverlookedorforgottenbycrewsisfinding“TheGroove”.Thegrooveisthedancer’sreactiontothebeatandtheundertoneofthemusic.Ithelpsadancertoimproviseandexpresstheirdancingmorefromtheinsideout.Thegrooveexistsinalltypesofmusicanddanceandcertainlywithinallstylesofstreetdance.It’swhatmakesthedance“funky”.Findthegrooveinyourmusicandexpressitinyourcrew’sroutine.It’sanotheropportunitytoshowcasethedanceandberewardedbythejudges.Crewsshouldconsiderincludingfewerstreetdancestylesintheirroutinesandexecutingthemperfectlyratherthanperformingmorewiththepossibilityofpoorexecution.Theminimumnumberofstreetdancestylesis3.Don’triskalowerscorebyattemptingagreatervarietythatareimproperlyperformed.Judgeswillassesstheabilitiesofthecrewthroughtheweakestcrewmember.Crewsshouldbeawarethathavingayoungermemberthatisn’tclearlyasstrongashis/hercrewmembersmaylowerthecrew’soverallscore.Theinclusionofareasonableusageoftraditional(cultural)dancesandfolkloretoenhanceindividualityandfurtheridentifythecrewisallowableandwelcomed–examples:Salsa,Capoeira,Bollywood,etc..Movesperformedinaroutine(thatrequirepreparationintothemovee.g.,backflip)willbeconsideredtrickswithnovaluesawardedunlesstheyarepreceded,followedandintegratedwithinthehiphopdancechoreography.TheinclusionofTRICKS(apracticeestablishedbytheuseofspecializedskillsrepresentativeofaparticularfieldofactivitywhichdoesnotconformtohiphopdancee.g.,gymnastics)mayaddtotheoverallproductionofaroutine,butmaynotplaceithigherthananothercrew’sroutine.Nospecialpointswillbeawardedfortheinclusion“specifically“oftricksbutusingthemtoheightentheroutine’stheme,personalityandexcitementisanallowablerisk.
